The Tiger Roar Ground Guide

To find a ground, please click on the initial of the team that plays there from the list above.

Mangotsfield United - Cossham Street
Website(s) : Mangotsfield Official Website
Discussion Boards(s) : Mangotsfield United Message Board
Directions : It's alot easier to get to the ground now that the Avon Ring Road is complete. From Gloucester take the M5, M4 and M32 and follow the signs to Frenchay. Stay on the ring road until the Pucklechurch turn off, go up the hill and take a right towards Shortwood. Carry on back over the ring road and the ground is on the left.
Parking : Abysmal. Small club car park, only just big enough for Shaun Penny's ego. There is street parking but when I was there there seemed to be traffic cones everywhere.
Ground Description : Western League ground made good enough for DML standard. I reckon if you dropped a nuclear bomb on it you'd cause around £3.75's worth of damage.
Food : Better than the previous visit. Pasties and meat pies. Or crisps.
Social Club : Pretty big, two bars. There's a photo of Steve Talboys on the wall in a Wimbledon kit. They are there as homage to ex-Mangotsfield players who have moved into the league. It's a shame for Stixy that they spelt his surname wrong!
Supporters : The absolute worst. For the past two seasons I've been and got into an argument with a home fan. Their directors aren't too welcoming either.

Merthyr Tydfil - Penydarran Park
Website(s) : The Martyrs dot com
Discussion Boards(s) : Martyr Talk
Directions : Two ways to Merthyr really; the easy way is M5, M4, A470 to Merthyr and then the ground is left (then right and right again) at the second set of traffic lights as you go through town on the A4102. Of course, this incurs a £4.60 payment to the French for the pleasure of crossing either Severn Bridge. The alternative route is through the Forest of Dean and via Abergavenny and along the A465 Heads of the Valleys Road.
Parking : There's a small area for parking behind the Family Stand, although it can fill up easily for bigger matches and it's possible to get blocked in after the game.
Ground Description : A proper football ground, the only downsided is the amount of segregation in place. Two stands, one alongside the pitch and another converted from a T-End style terrace behind the goal. A large shed type covered terrace opposite the main stand and an uncovered terrace at the other end.
Food : The Penalty Spot cafe offers a 'chips with anything' standard cuisine but the small tea bar in the Shed is the place to go for bad frankfurter sausages in dry baps.
Social Club : Their main money earner by all accounts, Strikers is a nice little club situated behind the main stand.
Supporters : They're Welsh so expect the minority of anti-English hatred, but generally their a decent bunch who've shared ups and downs with us over the years.
Memories : I think I've been to Penydarren Park six times through the years and seen two superb FA Trophy wins (3-1 in 1991 and 1-0 in 2002), a 2-3 defeat, a 2-2 draw and two others that I can't remember the score of. Certainly one of my favourite places to visit and one that I look out for as soon as the fixtures are announced.
