Davenport's Diary
Welcome to Davenport's Diary, a close to the knuckle feature that amazingly featured all through the 2003/2004 season in a regular slot in the City matchday programme. Tigers' fan Andy Birchley expanded on an idea that he'd used in previous issues of the now defunct fanzine Tiger Roar by going back 10, 15 and 25 years to report on how City were doing at the time that the programme was published.
With most things it takes time to compile and research the articles and a special mention has to be made for Andy as he made several trips to the City Library and sifted through old newspaper micro-films to write Davenport's Diary. What most folk don't realise however is that he doesn't drive and also lives near Manchester so he took several train trips down here on his day off to write these.
Nice one Andy / Shandy / Davenport / Shandy!

Davenport's Diary

Most men of my age are married and drink beer. I collect toe nail clippings and dribble. When I was banished to the attic last week by my evil step-aunt, who is also my sister AND my grandmother’s dog, I decided to leaf through some back issues of Locomotive monthly. Imagine my joy as I came across all my old Gloucester City press cuttings. I almost weed myself in excitement. So, over the coming season I intend to take you back down memory boulevard, and share with you my memories of 1978, 1988 and 1993. Not so much rock n roll years, more like the punk, house and hip hop years.
