| What can you say about Adie Harris! |
| Most players age all too easily, Brian Hughes went from midfield maestro to ageing embarrasment in a couple of seasons, yet that was in his mid-thirties and Adie is touching forty but still going strong. |
| I'd love to be able to chart Adie's career from the off, but sadly he was around before I was. My first memory of him is the guy who looked like a schoolboy in the team photo from the 1988/89 season. I didn't actually see him in action during that spell because he'd left for Trowbridge before I started to watch the Tigers. He did however pop up when we played a league cup tie at Frome Road and he looked incredibly quick. |
| When John Murphy came to City in the summer of 1994 he brought about seven of his Trowbridge squad with him, Adie was one of them. He played in an attacking team on the left wing with Keith Knight on the right, the aim was to provide the likes of Karl Bayliss, Mark Hallam and Dave Mitchell with crosses. After all, Murphy was known as the type of manager who liked to get bodies in the box. Unfortunately, the plan didn't work as well as planned as Adie seemed to struggle against even the most mediocre right backs. He certainly wasn't one of my favourite players! |
| After leaving the Tigers for a second time he joined up with Cinderford Town, much closer to his Hereford home. He prospered in the Forest and memorably returned to City with them in the FA Cup and scored the only goal of the game as we were the victims of a giant killing by the bear killers. |
| Roll on about five years and the news that Adie, now in his late thirties had resigned for City to replace Luke Prince and you'd probably imagine my dismay! |
| I suppose given my attitude things could only get better, and they did! From the wonderful left footed cross the he put over during a pre-season friendly at Brockworth for Andy Hoskins to score, to the goal that sealed the 2-0 win at Woking in the FA Trophy, Harris has been A1. It's great to see him outpace players less than half his age and although I didn't vote for him, he truly deserved the 2002/03 player of the season award. |
