Keith Knight - Midfield |
|
Keith resigned for City in the summer of 2003 for his fourth spell at Meadow Park. |
He started out as a youngster with Cheltenham Town and after starring in their Gola League side earned himself a £7000 transfer into the Football League with Reading. He was a consistent performer at Elm Park, but surprisingly opted to join City for a four figure fee in late 1990. |
Keith didn't enjoy the best of times in his first spell at Meadow Park and was rescued when his former club came back and took him on loan at Whaddon Road. He returned to City after a month, but despite looking much better moved on to a professional contract in Belgium. |
After he'd finished with his spell abroad, on his return to Cheltenham (his home town) he called upon his old manager and friend John Murphy, who at the time was manager of Trowbridge Town. Having turned the Wiltshire side into a force to be reckoned with in the DML, Knight was a great addition to the squad at Frome Road. So when Murph came to Meadow Park to manager the Tigers, Keith (along with the bulk of the team) followed! |
He played for City between 1994 and 1996 and it was his best spell for the club. He wore the number seven shirt and took all the penalties, to the best of my knowledge he never missed one either! Sadly, when his friend John Murphy was sacked, Keith left and joined up with league rivals Halesowen Town. On his debut he did the damage as the Brummies beat us 5-4 to put a dent in out title aspirations. |
In the past five or six years he has seen lots of action at lots of clubs. After leaving Halesowen he had a short spell at Worcester, played a part in Cheltenhams promotion to the football league and has also represented Swindon Supermarine and Cirencester Town. He'll be a decent aquisition for City. |
