Jorge Ferro - Defender |
|
Jorge was an Angolan born Portuguese national who joined the club on January 20th 2006 as one of Tim Harris' first signings. The Iberian had gained experience with both Porto and Benfica as a junior but as a 33 year old found himself in the Southern League with City! |
Standing 6ft 3in tall the centre back cast an imposing figure when he made his debut at home to Bath City but being in a side that featured three new defenders it was no surprise as the Romans won 0-2. |
Ferro found his way to Meadow Park after originally trying out at Forest Green Rovers in pre-season and eventually spending time in the Western League with Bridgwater Town. |
He played three full games in total, as well as the Bath match he also featured in a disappointing home draw against Evesham United and another share of the spoils away at Penydarren Park against Merthyr Tydfil. |
It was the Merthyr game that showed up his shortcomings, particularly the moment where he tried to juggle the ball out of the area, lost it and almost conceeded a goal. Something which I'm sure Harris would've cited as a reason to drop him for the next match and release him after it. |
The game in Wales also saw him win a free kick with a , which although had novelty value, also had no place in the Gloucester City side. |
As well as the three league games he also featured in mid season friendlies against Pegasus Juniors, FGR and Abingdon United. During the Pegasus match Jorge helped thaw out the frozen pitch with a continental move that saw him whip out his todger and take a piss on the park. |
