Andy Hoskins - Striker
Andy Hoskins, City's 'big man' up front has pretty much taken over the role that we've been so used to seeing Karl Bayliss perform over the past decade. Now in his second spell with the club, he had finally settled in and made a first team place his own.
Like the majority of the City team brought together in the early days of Chris Burns, Hosk (as he is known to the fans) is from Brockworth. It was from there that he signed for Forest Green Rovers for his first taste of football at a higher level. He scored a hattrick against Rushden & Diamonds after coming on as a substitute but his career at the Lawn seemed to nosedive from there.
Andy had his first spell at City in 1997, but with the likes of Adie Mings and Tony Hemmings in the side he struggled to make a first team place his own. One game of note which he featured in was the 10-0 drubbing of Sudbury Town in the FA Cup. In the main though, the games that he started in were the low key encounters, and it was one of these games against Newport County in the League Cup that saw him break his leg and end his spell as a City player. After he recovered he was unable to get back in the side and headed off to Cinderford.
When City found themselves with just a handful of players at the start Chris Burns' reign, Hosk answered the SOS and rejoined the Tigers. As the only recognised striker, maybe the burden was too much to carry as he struggled to get on the scoresheet netting just ten goals in 37 games, four of which came in a spectacular display against league whipping boys Bilston Town.
The 2002/03 season however has seen him more than double his goal haul as he benefitted from the skill and trickery of Jimmy Cox. His 21 goals were a great achievement, but his game has been let down by a sharp increase in yellow cards. He sat out six games at the start of the season and accrued enough bookings to earn two suspensions during the recent campaign.
This past season has surely been the pinnacle of Hoskins career goalwise, but despite hard working displays against Woking and Southport he never looked like scoring and has surely found his level on this tier of the pyramid.
