Steve Talboys - Midfield |
|
A Lorry driver by day Steve 'Sticksy' Talboys was a Brian Godfrey signing from Trowbridge Town for £4000 in the summer of 1988. Always a favourite with the fans he was a threat in the air from corners and bursting from midfield with late runs into the box. People sat up and took notice and he was rewarded with an £11,000 move to Premier League side Wimbledon on 1993. |
Although a part of the Crazy Gang he was never really good enough for Premier League football and his appearances for the Dons were few and far between. That said he did remain at Selhurst Park for four seasons and often roomed with Vinnie Jones on away trips but he was eventually released and signed for Watford. |
The step down a league was still too much for our Stixy and he spent two wasted years at Vicarage Road, the scene of his penultimate goal in a City shirt (against Wealdstone in a 2-3 defeat). He wasn't exactly appreciated by the Hornets' fans either judging by this damning pen pic from the online fanzine. |
Following his release from the professional ranks Steve played for a number of non-league sides including Borehamwood and Sutton United before he was tempted back to Meadow Park in March 2000 to play a game for City as they struggled to avoid the drop. That was a big mistake as Talboys ran around alot but had little impact on the game. His comeback last just one game. |

If you're smart and you've pressed CTRL + A you'll be able to see what has been written here. It's not important, honestly. It bears no relation to this player and all it does is make the picture on the right (yes, that one) stay on the right and not encroach into the middle. Satisfied? Good. |
