Steve Book - Goalkeeper |
|
Book was a goalkeeper who came to City on trial from Weston Super Mare in the summer of 1991. |
He played in two pre-season friendlies under Brian Godfrey and showed promise as a shot stopper but during an evening game at Clevedon his inability to deal with a number of crosses showed a major flaw in his game and was rejected. |
Book, the son of Kim Book and nephew of former Manchester City star Tony Book eventually found his way to the Lawn where he helped Forest Green start their incredible rise to the Conference, although his suspect handling hadn't seemed to have improved whilst all he seemed to do was shout loudly at his defenders. |
He eventually made his move into the professional ranks by jumping aboard the Cheltenham bandwagon as they joined the league but even though he remained first choice through his Whaddon Road career was never wholehearted accepted by the fans and was often blamed for letting in soft goals. |
Upon his release from the Robins he was surprisingly employed by Swindon Town where following one season and a couple of starts he was shown the door in the summer of 2005. |
