Richard Mansell - Left Back |
|
Richard was a left sided player who was signed by Chris Burns upon his release from Football League side Luton Town in the summer of 2005. |
The Gloucester based player came from a well known footballing family as elder brother Lee had made a name for himself with the Hatters before a summer move to Oxford and younger sister Lisa was showing promise in the fairer sex version of the game. |
After impressing during the pre-season friendlies Rich was given a one year contract with the club and at times looked as though he might be a decent investment with his forward runs and powerful left foot shot. However his debut at home to Kings Lynn saw both goals conceded from his position as his defensive frailties were exposed. |
He was also tried on the left side of a three man defence but was memorably caught in possession at home to Merthyr and was only saved from giving away a soft goal by a great save from Matt Bath. |
As the season wore on Mansell became consistent but unspectacular in a team that was heading for a relegation battle and when Tim Harris became boss he found his chances limited and opted to join Hellenic League side Bishops Cleeve in March 2006. |
Mansell's only goal for the club came at home to Tiverton Town with a blast into an empty net from twelve yards in the thriller which City lost 4-5. |
