Although he was cruelly dubbed a "£15,000 backpass" by my brother Sherwood had the knack of calmly tidying up things at the back and became the heart of our defence as we pushed for a place in the GM Vauxhall Conference. When Les Alderman revealed that he'd pulled out of the club it became clear that Jeff was too much for us to afford and he eventually left to rejoin his old team Yeovil.
