However troubles off the field dented hopes of a future move to Aston Villa where he'd been offered trials and he was jailed for his part in a vicious assault in town. Chris Burns threw him a lifeline upon his release and he wore an electronic tag whilst playing although it was the extra eight around his waistline that held him back. A criminally wasted talent.
