Chris Townsend - Legendary Striker |
|
Welshman Chris was the darling of the T-End after he scored thirty odd goals for the Tigers following a move from Cheltenham Town in November 1988. However, those fans who hoped that he'd remain at City should've looked at the number of clubs he'd played for in such a short space of time and not been surprised that he'd left Meadow Park in a big money move to Dorchester Town. |
Sadly for Chris the travelling distance from his Newport home had an adverse effect on his displays for the Magpies and within a matter of months he was on the move again, this time to Bath City. Again he struggled to make an impact and all of his goals for the Romans came in one game. He was loaned out to Stroud and found his touch again by scoring nine times for the Nailsworth team before being free transferred back to Meadow Park in a move that saw Bath boss Tony Ricketts see red after paying £12,000 for him less than a year earlier. |
They always say that players shouldn't go back to the club where they'd made their name and this was true in the case of Towner, especially at a time where Steve Millard was unable to keep the same starting eleven from one week to the next. Even though Chris got a fair number of goals his form was suffering and when the chance to join Chesham United presented itself he took it with both hands. |

If you're smart and you've pressed CTRL + A you'll be able to see what has been written here. It's not important, honestly. It bears no relation to this player and all it does is make the picture on the right (yes, that one) stay on the right and not encroach into the middle. Satisfied? Good. |
