| Who can forget the day that we, as a Southern League Premier club tonked Merthyr Tydfil from the Conference 7-1 in the FA Cup. And who would've thought that the beaten Welshmen could include a player so good that he'd sign for us and leave a lasting impression on the City fans for years to come? |
| At the time the Martyr's had several London based players who commuted to the Heads of the Valleys on matchdays, Adebowale was one of them. It didn't take long for the tall, lean and skillfull midfielder to show us what he had. |
| The best part of his game was his ability to run from box to box with the ball glued to his foot and who can forget that goal that he scored in the vital 3-1 victory at the Cross Keys against Hednesford Town? He collected the ball on the edge of his own area, using his big strides he left his opponents behind before shooting from the edge of the box under the keeper. |
| Andy was also the source of a set-to I had at Cambridge City on a day when the beat our hosts 4-0. With a shrill cockney accent, one geezer was giving it "He's all legs, he's all legs", moments before the City maestro curled in a beautiful shot from distance into the top corner. I stood up to the guy and went "He's all legs" before enjoying the other three goals that City treated us to. |
| During his spell at Meadow Park Andy was linked with a move to Aston Villa, although it didn't materialise and he eventually left (although I'm not sure where to). He was a spectator at The Warren when we beat Yeading 3-0 at the start of our 1997 FA Trophy campaign and there was talk of him coming back although, like the move to Villa it never happened. |
| Andy wasn't forgotten though and made an appearance against City in August 2004 for Chesham United. The fans that had made the trip to the game in a minibus were going to use the profits from the journey to sponsor Andy but two late goals turned a victory into defeat and left a sour taste in our mouth so we left. |
| Andy has now retired from football. |
