He played a handful of games under Steve Millard, the one which most sticks in the mind was away at Crawley Town where old style winger Tony Towner ripped him to shreds helping the home team to a three goal lead at the break. For the second half he was substituted with other 'full back' Gareth Taylor (a future Welsh International and Million Pound Striker), Taylor kicked Towner once and that was it from the veteran winger.
