Stafford count as a big club in non-league cicles because back in the late 1980's when I started supporting City they were in the Gola League / Conference.
It's somewhat surprising that we've met so few times over the years and it's only recently since our promotion to the Blue Square North that we've played at all. Back in the mid 90's Stafford were making the inglorious fall from the Conference straight into the Dr Martens Midland division and spent most of the season rooted to the foot of the table.
Our two games that year saw a thrilling 4-3 win at Marston Road which City did their best to lose against a poor but spirited team and the return fixture at Meadow Park was the first match following John Murphy's departure, a game which City just edged.
Our first year in the BSN saw us narrowly edged out in a 0-1 defeat at Stafford, although it wasn't as though we had the chance to equalise but matters were made straight back in Cirencester when City rode their luck to edge out Rangers 2-0.
In October 2010 City earned another 2-0 win as former England goalkeeper Tim Flowers made his debut as Stafford's new manager. Goals from Mike Symons and Ollie Barnes earned City the three points.
