Mike is a burly striker with a knack of making the ball stick meaning that he can bring players around him into the game. He originally signed for the club in the summer of 2008 although it was on non-contract forms so he could continue to represent both Hartpury College where he is a tutor and Forest Green Rovers reserves.
Despite failing to impress in his pre-season performances Symons hit the ground running on his league debut against Stourbridge Town when he netted a brace of goals. This was followed up with two headed strikes against Evesham and Oxford City before two at home to Bashley, including a contender for goal of the season saw him briefly top the divisional goalscoring charts.
Supporters of both Cirencester Town and Clevedon Town, two of his previous clubs had said that he could blow hot and cold and so it showed as he disappointed away at both Farnborough and Chalfont St Peter in two vital games.
In the meantime he was earning rave reviews for his performances in the second string at the Lawn prompting Jim Harvey to offer him double what City were paying and he jumped at the chance to try his luck in the Conference.
He was used mainly as a substitute by the Nailsworth outfit although he became something of a fans favourite as he notched three goals in twenty-five games. He'll no doubt however rue pulling on his City shirt at Chalfont though as it cup tied him and mean't that he could play no part in their cup matches including the 3-4 thriller at home to Derby County in front of five thousand glory hunters.
After dropping out of favour he was snapped up by City, initially on a months loan at the end of February 2009 before re-signing permanently in the summer.
