Aaron Wilson Stunning goal |
The ghost of the FA Cup continued to haunt the Tigers this afternoon when after taking a two goal lead with twenty minutes to go, a moment of madness saw Eastleigh grab two goals in a minute before going on to net a winner with ten minutes remaining.
It had all started so well for City as Jody Bevan converted from the spot after Michael Whittington had been felled. In the second half Aaron Wilson scored with a fabulous volley from Bevan's knock down but it would've been so much different had Whittington scored with either of the gilt edged chances that he was presented with.
But the game was turned on it's head with two quick goals, first through Andy Forbes and then less than a minute later Jamie Brown got behind the City defence to score the equaliser. Eastleigh grabbed the winner with ten minutes to go when a far post cross went in off a City defender.

Laura Meheran Outstanding |
The Ladies took a leaf out of the Men's teams book at Meadow Park this afternoon by beating Cornish opposition in the FA Cup. Launceston and their fans treated this game as their cup final and although they were soundly beaten by City they were better than the 0-10 defeat indicted.
Kelly Aldridge gave The Tigresses the lead before Donna Turner (on as sub for Laura Stephens) grabbed a quick double. Helen Wood wasn't having much luck in front of goal and was denied two decent shouts for a penalty before being booked as she went down for a third time, although she didn't claim anything as she slipped and got straight back up.
Helen had the last laugh though as she went on to score five goals despite being jeered every time she got the ball by the fans following Launceston. The outstanding Laura Meheran and Yvette Kemp got the other two goals.

Michael Noakes Scored another! |
City will look back at this afternoon's game against Northwood and wonder how they didn't finish with three points considering they had an extra man and were two goals up with ten minutes to go.
A slow start saw Tim Harris' men saw them fall behind to a James Shipperley header but within five minutes Michael Whittington had levelled when he volleyed home with the side of his foot after a great run and cross from Tom Webb. Lyndon Tompkins became City's top scorer when he headed home a Neil Mustoe centre to give the Tigers the lead but celebrated like he was offended by it!
In the second half Northwood were reduced to ten men when Shipperley elbowed Tompkins right in front of the referee, who instantly produced a red card. City looked to take a hold on the game and substitute Michael Noakes stole into the box to finish after Joe Tustain's shot was blocked by a defender but there was a sting in the tail for a lethargic City as ex-Chelsea player Mark Nicholls scored twice in the last ten minutes to earn a point for the Cockneys.
Defender Darren Robison has left the club following a disagreement with Tim Harris. Ex-Newport County & Merthyr Tydfil defender Robo never kicked a ball in anger for the Tigers and only featured in pre-season friendlies.

Tom Webb Scored opener |
Following Saturday's disappointing goalless home draw against Liskeard the need for this long midweek trip for the replay caused many people to think that it would be a repeat of last season's embarrassing exit to a much lower division team. However, this is a different era and the Tigers had different ideas as they made light work of their South Western League opponents to earn an away tie with Eastleigh in the next round.
After a spell of early pressure from the home team Tom Webb put City ahead with a low shot from outside the area after a corner was cleared as far as him. Jody Bevan made it two in the second half with a smart volley from Michael Whittington's cross before substitute Michael Noakes wrapped things up in injury time with a near post header.
The Supporters Trust are looking to run a coach to the Eastleigh game, leaving Meadow Park at 11.30am and returning after the game at 5.30pm. Cost will be £10 per seat for adults and £7.50 for children and OAP's. |

Helen Wood Another hat trick! |
For the second season running the Ladies have beaten Team Bath emphatically on their own ground at Claverton Down. Last year it was 4-0 to the Tigresses and this season they went two goals better by winning 6-1, although the students did score a second that was ruled out despite it being a perfectly valid goal.
Laura Meheran put City one up after a couple of minutes with a well hit lob from twenty-five yards before Helen Wood made it two when she tidied up a poor clearance from Yvette Kemp's deep corner. Mouse scored again, this time from the penalty spot after she was tripped as she tangled legs running into the area before the home team pulled one back with a spot kick of their own. Wood then turned provider with a beautiful cross from the touchline back to the penalty spot where Kelly Aldridge arrived to execute the perfect finish on the half volley.
Helen completed her hat trick with another header from a Kemp corner, this time from the other side and Aldridge grabbed her second in a Team Bath dominated second half as she ran fully sixty yards beating three defenders en route to goal and firing the ball past the Bath keeper.
The ladies are next in action on Sunday at home to Launceston in the second round of the Ladies FA Cup (k/o 2pm). |

Jody Bevan Denied a goal |
Despite almost completely dominating Liskeard for the best part of the game City just could not find the back of the net in todays FA Cup First Qualifier and now face a 330 mile round trip on Tuesday to replay in Cornwall (k/o 7.45pm).
It was almost a case of deja vu as the visitors, resplendant in their blue kits looked like Christchurch had come back to haunt as as they had the better of the opening half hour.
However City settled and started to dominate the South-Western League side and were not only denied a penalty when Jonny Miller's free kick was blocked with a raised hand but also let down by the linesman who failed to spot that Jody Bevan's flick had crossed the line.
The second half was 75% / 25% in City's favour and again they peppered the Liskeard goal but their efforts bore no fruit whatsoever. The day was summed up when substitute Aaron Wilson rose highest but could only direct his header the wrong side of the far post.
Good luck in the replay boys, it'll be the first game that TR hasn't attended since just after our FA Trophy exit at Aylesbury in 2003!

Michael Whittington is back! |
Tim Harris this afternoon completed the loan signing of striker Michael Whittington to bolster his attacking options following the release of Luke Corbett.
Pacy striker Whitts was one of Harris' first signings last season and scored seven goals in eight appearances as the Tigers fought off relegation.
He WILL be available to play against Liskeard Athletic in the FA Cup on Saturday. |

Jamie Reid Scored City's first |
City went to Stamford today and left feeling as though they'd been mugged after a late penalty handed the points to the home team.
It was an awful start for the Tigers who looked as though they were still on the coach as the home side scored first through Robbie Harris and then former Kings Lynn winger Mark Angel. However, showing great resolve Tim Harris' men fought their way back and levelled with near identical finishes from Jamie Reid and Lyndon Tompkins.
But despite being turned down for three good penalty appeals when an Alex Sykes shot was handled in the first half, and in the second Joe Tustain was tripped as he chased a cross and Aaron Wilson was bundled over as he ran in on goal. Amazingly on a very rare Stamford break the linbesman spotted a handball by Chris Thompson and Angel slotted home the penalty..

Luke Corbett Released |
Striker Luke Corbett has been deemed surplus to requirements at Meadow Park as Tim Harris looks to trim his early season squad. The forward made an instant impact on his debut against Mangotsfield last season as he scored within fifty seconds and went on to net another eleven times before the end of the season.
Tiger Roar would like to wish Luke all the best for the future.
Incoming however is young left sided player Michael Noakes who returns to the squad following a short spell away from the game after making several appearances in spells for the Tigers over the past eighteen months. |

Tom Webb Got the elbow! |
City were unlucky not to hold on for all three points last night at Lodge Road after coming from behind against Yate Town. City legend Jimmy Cox had given his new team an early lead before Tony Court flapped at an Alex Sykes corner to allow City to draw level. Adie Harris "did" Lee Jeffries and set up Jody Bevan to plant home his first goal of the season but David Elsey netted ten minutes from time to deny the spirited Tigers a welcome away win.
Yate have earned a tag as a dirty team and didn't help themselves last night with a host of bookings including one for Paul Chenoweth who was only booked for elbowing Tom Webb in the head. Even Jethro got in the act, albeit accidentally as he slid into Joe Tustain with his studs showing and left the City youngster in agony on the floor. Elsey was a good boy this time though!
Meanwhile in the fairer game the Ladies team got a 1-0 victory away at Whaddon against Cheltenham Town. Laura Stephens scored the goal. |

Joe Tustain Equaliser |
In a match ruined by a mixture of swirling wind and rain both City and Hitchin will be happy that they each ended up with a point from this afternoon's game.
Substitute Joe Tustain put the Tigers back into contention with a bullet header from an Alex Sykes corner on the hour mark after Chris Dillon had given the Hertfordshire side a shock lead just before the break. Jody Bevan, who was preferred to Luke Corbett might've given City all three points had an over zealous linesman not spotted a foul as the striker robbed Stuart Hammonds and lobbed Michael Parkin in the Canaries goal.

Our opponents in the First Qualifying round of the FA Cup will be Cornish side Liskeard Athletic who beat Welton Rovers this afternoon.

Lyndon Tompkins Consolation Goal |
It was a disappointing afternoon for the Tigers at Meadow Park in front of an above average crowd as they fell victim to a well organised Halesowen Town team. Former Kidderminster Harriers striker Matt Lewis scored on the stroke of half time before Alex Cowley and Lewis again netted in quick succession at the beginning of the second period for the Yeltz. City did pressure their guests throughout but were unable to beat Mark Gayle until it was too late when Lyndon Tompkins beat the experienced Brummie stopper from close range.

Jason Welsh Two goals at Cheshunt |
City travelled to Hertfordshire this afternoon and well and truly buried the memory of their defeat at Rugby in midweek with an emphatic 3-0 win over Cheshunt.
Starlet Aaron Wilson was absent from midfield due to a family wedding abroad but he wasn't missed overall as Jason Welsh (with two) and Luke Corbett got their first goals of the season. Welsh's first was buried into the back of the net after good work by Corbs from a Mike Fowler throw, then Corbett himself got in on the act by sidefooting home an Alex Sykes corner although it might've been ruled out had the referee spotted Lyndon Tompkins' arms all over the keeper.
After the break the former Merthyr former put the result beyond doubt when he volleyed home a pinpoint cross from Corbett to send the travelling Tigers, who made up at least a third of the crowd, home happy. Neil Mustoe also made a welcome return when he replaced Mike Fowler for the final twenty minutes.

Alex Sykes Deflected Free Kick |
The sight of City players collapsed on the pitch after tonight's morale sapping defeat was a sure sign that the best team had lost after Tim Harris' men had done enough to put the game beyond their ordinary looking hosts by the break.
Luke Corbett almost broke the deadlock for City when his audacious lob looked to have beaten Rugby keeper Farhad Afandiyev but the he managed to flick it away at the last minute. Substitute Alex Sykes did however score when his free kick took a deflection off the top of the Rugby wall to find the net.
However, if Maidenhead felt mugged at Meadow Park on saturday then we were introduced to the feeling as Jason Taylor scored from the spot after a penalty had been awarded by the linesman then a minute later David Stone scored to make it two. Sykes could've equalised late on as he slid in at the far post but it wasn't to be and the few Rugby fans that bothered to attend went home happy.

Jamie Reid Stunning goal |
They'll be crying into their jellied eels in Maidenhead tonight after first Aaron Wilson and then Jamie Reid scored late goals to take all three points from the cockney newcomers in this opening day encounter at Meadow Park.
In a game which looked a likely away win as Tim Harris fielded a patched up side it was the M4 corridor side that looked best in the first half and just brave defending and stout goalkeeping kept the Tigers in it. However when speedy winger Dwain Clarke put the visitors one up after the break City showed true grit to not only come from behind but also steal three barely deserved points.
Debutant Aaron Wilson levelled things by smashing home a low shot after Jason Welsh had helped on a low cross from Jody Bevan before Jamie Reid won the game with a fantastic half volley from nearly thirty yards.

Aaron Wilson New signing |
So, the new season is finally upon us and Tiger Roar makes a reappearance following a move of servers and lethargy attack.
Having turned the club around in a few short months last season many people will be looking to Tim Harris to challenge for a playoff place or embark upon a decent FA Cup run this time around. To help his cause he has added a clutch of new faces with Darren Robison, Jason Welsh, Tom Hamblin, Joe Tustain, Mike Fowler, Aaron Wilson and Alex Sykes all new to the club.
However, tomorrow sees the visit of newly relegated and strangely fancied cockney's Maidenhead United (k/o 3pm) but Harris finds himself with a bit of an injury crisis with Fowler, Robison, Dave Wilkinson, Chris Thompson, Neil Mustoe and Adie Harris all likely to miss out.
