Gloucester City fought back to gain a point against Hitchin Town at Meadow Park.
Tigers boss Tim Harris made one change from the side that turned in a disappointing performance against Halesowen last Monday with Jody Bevan starting up front and Luke Corbett dropping to the bench.
"We are reasonably happy to take a point from a side that have just had two very good wins," said Harris. "We had a great second half but we just need someone in there with enough experience to hold things together for us."
City had the elements in their favour in the first half but despite penning Town back in their own half for long periods failed to make the most of their advantage. Midway through the half, Mike Fowler's pass released Johnny Miller and his low cross into the six yard box was missed by Jason Welsh. Alex Sykes, following up, could only blast over the unguarded net. Chris Dillon almost made City pay for that miss by twice going close. First, he burst through but could only drag his shot wide. Then he managed to shake off the attentions of Chris Thompson but with only Matt Bath to beat he fired over.
It was a case of third time lucky for Dillon five minutes before the break. He met Neil Pugh's pinpoint cross with a neat flick that Bath did well to parry but Dillon reacted quickly to shoot home.
Harris changed things around at half-time, going to 4-4-2 with Adie Harris replacing the injured Tom Hamblin, and the tactics would see City draw level on 59 minutes. Substitute Joe Tustain had only been on the pitch for five minutes, replacing the injured Welsh, when he rose highest at the far post to place in a header from a Sykes corner. Three minutes later, Bevan had the ball in the net again after dispossessing Stuart Hammonds but unfortunately for City the referee's assistant flagged for a foul by Bevan.
The Tigers had a big let-off 12 minutes from time when Lyndon Tompkins misjudged a big clearance and the ball fell to Gavin Jaggard near the penalty spot. Luckily for City he was unable to keep his shot down and the ball sailed over the bar.
"We face a difficult game at Yate tomorrow," added Harris. "Hopefully Neil Mustoe and Darren Robison will be fit to play because we have three players carrying injuries, Welsh, Hamblin and Fowler all look very doubtful."
