Corby Town
McAthletics Stadium
The up's and downs (and in's and outs) of the 2006/07 Southern League Premier have been decided by the Football Association after the leagues failed to agree their constitution among themselves. After more than a decade in the Isthmian League the Tigers will welcome Wealdstone FC back to Meadow Park, although the away game will see two visit's to Northwood as the Stones currently share the grafitti daubed Chestnut Avenue ground.

Another new ground for most people will be York Road, home of Maidenhead United FC who join us after a disatrous campaign in the Conference South. Corby Town and Stamford were promoted from the eastern division and see us visit less than inspiring grounds, both for their own special reasons.

Hemel Hempstead are welcomed back after their year away whilst western Champions Clevedon Town's Hand Stadium will be familar to most City fans.

As well as Salisbury City and Bedford Town (promoted teams) and Evesham, Chesham and Aylesbury (relegated) we also say goodbye to Grantham Town who have been placed in the Unibond League.

Here is the full league line-up ....

  • Banbury Utd
  • Bath City
  • Cheshunt
  • Chippenham Town
  • Cirencester Town
  • Clevedon Town
  • Corby Town
  • Gloucester City
  • Halesowen Town
  • Hemel Hempstead Town
  • Hitchin Town
  • Kings Lynn
  • Maidenhead Utd
  • Mangotsfield Utd
  • Merthyr Tydfil
  • Northwood
  • Rugby Town
  • Stamford
  • Team Bath
  • Tiverton Town
  • Wealdstone
  • Yate Town

Andy Birchley
Hat trick hero
This years Pete Chase Cup, a game contested between Gloucester City Ladies FC and a team of City Supporters was played at Meadow Park last night with the muscle of the fans seeing them to a 6-1 victory.

First half goals from Andy "Shandy" Birchley and Mark "Taff jnr" Compton gave the supporters a comfortable lead at the interval before a four goal salvo in the second half saw Birchley complete a hat-trick as well as other strikes from Compton and Robert Woodland. Hayley Appleby grabbed a late consolation for the Ladies as she headed home Helen Wood's cross.

The cup was presented to Supporters captain Birchley after the game by Sandra Chase, long time City Supporter Pete's widow.

it's been emotional

Luke Corbett
Winning Goal
City completed their home campaign with a single goal victory over Hitchin Town, meaning that they have remained unbeaten at Meadow Park since January.

In a dour game played on a rock hard pitch it was left to substitute Luke Corbett to grab the only goal of the game with a little over ten minutes to play. Debutant Justin Pritchard had dragged his shot hopelessly wide of the target but instead of going out of play it fell nicely for Mark McKeever who had his effort charged down by Richard Wilmot in the Hitchin goal. However, Corbett was on hand to prod home the ball into the empty net and send a message to Tim Harris following his decision to drop City's top scorer again.

The photos from today are here and the match summary is here.

Before the game Tom Webb was named as Player of the Season for 2005/06. If Tom completes ninety minutes at Banbury next Saturday he will have played every minute of every game during this campaign, an impressive feat!

Friday 21st April 2006
Tom Webb
Extended contract
Tim Harris has begun building his side for next season with five of Chris Burns' players committing themselves to his first full campaign.

Both Tom Webb and Chris Thompson have signed twelve month extensions to their contracts which were due to expire after next Saturday's game at Banbury whilst Neil Mustoe, Dave Wilkinson and Daryl Addis have all pledged their services to the club for what is going to be an eagerly anticipated 2006/07 season.

The Tigers are in action at Meadow Park tomorrow for the last time this season as they face Errea Cup finalists Hitchin Town (k.o 3pm). Justin Pritchard, the striker who signed from Weston along with Mark McKeever two weeks ago may finally make his City debut if he's able to shake off a calf strain, whilst Chris Holland, Jeff Eckhardt and Adie Harris will also feature if they are fit. It was reported last week that Holland had been recalled by Bath City but a flaw in the paperwork nulled his return and he remains a Tiger until the end of the season, when his own contract with Bath expires. Go on Tim, sign him on!

Jody Bevan
Glancing Header
Congratulations to Tim Harris, Chris Smith, Neil Mustoe and the team following confirmation of our Premier Division status for next season. After looking doomed at Christmas the work put in by "Harry" & co has been superb and if that kind of success can be repeated next time around then the play-offs must be an achievable target.

In a dour Bank Holiday battle at Meadow Park City edged past the Yeltz by a single goal as substitute Jody Bevan netted his first from open play just two minutes after coming off the bench. The Black Country side hit a post before City scored and will feel hard done by after leaving Gloucester empty handed.

For lots of photos from the game click here and for a report, click here.

Before the game on loan centre-half Chris Holland was recalled by Bath City, despite picking up a knock at Salisbury. Dutch was on the sidelines as he saw his club lose 0-2 at home to Chippenham Town in a niggly local derby. Thanks for the help Chris, come back for next season!

Chris Holland
Gifted goal
City's impressive ten match unbeaten run finally came to an end at Salisbury today after two first half goals virtually sealed the Championship for the big spending Wiltshire outfit. Loanee Chris Holland made a rare mistake to present Paul Sales with an opportunity to score from a wide angle at the near post before Alex Haddow doubled the advantage deep into first half injury time with an unstoppable half volley from the edge of the box following a Sarum corner.

However City didn't fail to create and Luke Corbett will rue the early miss that saw him fluff a shot straight at Kevin Sawyer in the home goal as the ball seemed to get stuck under his feet. Controversially before Salisbury had bagged their second the Tigers were denied a nailed on penalty for handball in the area as a defender stooped to chest clear a set piece, but with the referee unsighted the linesman failed to do the simplest of jobs and cost Tim Harris men a chance of an upset. In the second half substitute Jamie Reid might've grabbed a consolation when he gambled on a loose ball in the area but Sawyer spread his wide load to block the youngsters' effort.

For a few photos from Salisbury click here and for a report, click here.

Due to the traffic jam after the game the "Tigers en Minibus" jumped out and had a kickaround on the field whilst the road cleared. As ever TR was there getting photos, click here to see them!

On Thursday International football came to Meadow Park in the shape of the Ladies U-17 final between England and Scotland. Our girls won 2-0 to claim the trophy with a goal either side of the break. For photos from the game click here.

Michael "MC" Harvey
Sent Off!!!
City all but made themselves safe from relegation this afternoon at Meadow Park by beating Chesham United 3-1, a result which actually condemned the Generals to Division One football next season.

After a goalless first period dominated by a blustery wind when Luther Blissett's side enjoyed the lions share of the ball it was the Tigers who killed the game with three goals in six minutes at the start of the second. Chris Holland rose highest to power home a header before debutant Mark McKeever claimed a goal after the linesman had ruled that his corner had gone straight in and finally Luke Corbett showed great poise to control and fire home a half volley to make it three.

Former Watford and England striker Blissett's team became the first side to beat Matt Bath in five games when the City keeper charged down an angled drive only for substitute John Bacon to tap into an empty net. Then to add United's woes hapless defender Michael Harvey (MC Harvey from the So Solid Crew) was shown a straight red card for his part in a mass brawl in injury time.

Mark McKeever
Deadline Signing
Following the signings of Jeff Eckhardt and Stuart Jones on Thursday, City have confirmed that Weston-Super-Mare duo Mark McKeever and Justin Pritchard have been added to the squad for the remainder of the campaign, although they remain registered with the Conference South club and can play for either team.

Winger McKeever is something of a big name having been involved in a £1M transfer from Peterborough United to Sheffield Wednesday with David Billington in 1998 before injury curtailed his promising Football League career. Pritchard will be more well known to City fans having faced us a number of times whilst playing for Merthyr Tydfil and scoring on at least one occasion at Meadow Park. A centre forward, he will be well known to Jody Bevan having played alongside him in a previous spell at Weston whilst he also has experience playing at Yate Town.

Lorraine Johnson
Got City's goal
The Ladies can pretty much kiss goodbye to any hopes of winning the title after they failed to beat Frome Town away yesterday. Lorraine Johnson had given the Tigresses the lead with fifteen minutes to go but ten minutes later conceeded a penalty which was coolly slooted home by Sarah Moxey. Their hosts however have a great chance to overhaul Yeovil at the top with just a win and a draw needed from their last two games.

Meadow Park has been picked to host two games in a forthcoming U-17 Women's International Tournament. On Tuesday 11th April (k/o 7pm) Republic of Ireland and Holland go head to head whilst the Grand Final takes place on Friday April 14th (k/o 3pm). The games are as follows...

Chris Thompson
Broken Wrist?
City extended their unbeaten run to nine games with Matt Bath keeping another clean sheet as the Bedford game ended goalless, however the point came at a cost after Chris Thompson was shoved into the wall and left the field at half time with a suspected broken wrist.

In a game of few opportunities that was dominated by a swirling wind recalled striker Luke Corbett had the best chance for the Tigers when on a counter attack he hesitated after receiving a pinpoint cross from Jody Bevan, Jon Miller tested Bedford's Ian Brown with a long range free kick although it was well held. The Eagles cemented their claim for a play-off place with the point but might've taken all three had an early chance from Rene Howe and a second half effort from Chris Dillon found the net after he'd robbed substitute Michael Noakes.

Victories for Aylesbury, Chesham and Evesham mean't that there's still life at the bottom of the league but City now need a maximum of nine points from their remaining five games to make certain of survival.

The photos from today are here and the summary is here.
