Mike Fowler
Ex-Martyr scored
After racing into a three goal lead at half time against Merthyr Tydfil at Meadow Park today the Tigers will be disappointed after conceeding three in the second half to only end up with a point.

Jamie Reid struck first when he beat suppodsedly highly rated Martyr's keeper Ashley Morris from a narrow angle with a cross cum shot into the far corner. Ex-Merthyr captain Mike Fowler made it two when he drilled a free kick direct into the bottom corner before Tom Webb made it three before the break when he collected a pass from Reid and beat Morris with ease.

But.

The second half was a different matter as the Welshmen forced their way back into the game when Garry Shepherd drilled a shot wide of Matt Bath after a knock down in the area. Substitute Rhys Carpenter really put the willies up the Tigers when he finished after a good one-two with Craig Stiens before the inevitable equaliser came as a cushioned header by Paul Keddle set up Carpenter to fire a delightful shot past Bath.

It was a shame that the seasons best crowd of 531 didn't see a City win but also a concern that the behaviour of some of the Merthyr fans towards the end of the first half will see this fixture definately segregated next year.

Jamie Reid
88th minute winner
In a game which many people thought that the Tigers were only good for a point Tim Harris men surprisingly came away from Corby's Rockingham Triangle stadium with all three thanks to Jamie Reid's winning goal two minutes from time.

Harris' plans had been disrupted by the late withdrawl of Ollie Barnes with a chest infection and the likes of Jimmy Cox, Dave Wilkinson and Neil Mustoe were not fully fit to play against a side eager to impress new gaffer Ollie Keast who was appointed on Wednesday. The Steelmen tried their best and went in front early doors through a Kevin Byrne header the looped in off the post. However Keast wouldn't have been happy to see City net twice in a minute with an Alex Sykes shot deflecting in off Bobby White's head and keeper Darren Watts failing to scoop a Jason Welsh shot over his bar. However the home team drew level before the break when Byrne got his second with a smart finish over his shoulder.

The second half failed to live up to the first in terms of goals but Corby were the team dictating most of the play without really carving City open yet they were always exposed to counter attacks. With two minutes remaining Reid was played in by Mike Fowler in the right hand corner of the area and he smashed a shot into the top corner giving Watts no chance. A minute later the home teams misery was complete after substitute Chris Goodman was red carded for a stand on Reid.

Hear Tim's thoughts from today's game, listen here.

Photos from the game are here.

If City beat Didcot Town in their re-arranged Errea Cup match in January then Merthyr Tydfil will visit Meadow Park in the next round.

Wednesday 20th December 2006
Helen Wood
Cornwall bound
Gloucester City Ladies FC striker Helen Wood has made the surprise decision to leave the Tigresses after receiving an approach from South West Combination side Newquay LFC. Mouse was the second longest serving player in the City squad and had scored an amazing 255 goals in just 168 appearances since joining the club in 1999. Tiger Roar wishes her luck in her new career in Cornwall as City looks to finding her replacement with youngster Hayley Appleby looking favourite to step into her boots following her four goal haul for the reserves on Sunday.

In other news the 1-4 defeat at Cullompton Rangers has been expunged from the records after it was revealed that the Devon team fielded an ineligible player. The game will be replayed at a future date.

Last night's scheduled Errea Cup third round game at home to Didcot Town was postponed with just ten minutes to go until kick off after Meadow Park was enveloped a think fog. Anyone who had already paid to get into the match wasn't surprised at the decision with visibilty across the width of the pitch extremely limited. The game will now be played on Tuesday January 16th 2007 with a 7.45pm kick off.

Saturday 16th December 2006
Alex Sykes
Two goal haul
City continued their improved fortunes with a hard earned draw away to Hitchin Town's Top Field this afternoon.

Alex Sykes, himself showing improved form since being moved into a more attacking role was the hero with two strikes, one a tap in after Jamie Reid had shot against a post and a rare headed goal just before the break. However the home team were pretty handy in front of the target too and Chris Dillon was the Hitchin hero with a goal in each half. Unfortunately the game was marred with injuries to Jason Welsh and Shabir Khan although both are expected to be fit for next Saturday's game in Scotland against Corby Town.

Tim Harris spoke to Tiger Roar after the final whistle, listen here.

City's recent postponed game at home against Corby Town has now been rearranged for Tuesday 20th February 2007, kick off 7.45pm.

Aaron Wilson
Late winner
"Awesome" is the only word that can describe the performance put in by City at Kings Lynn last night after they came away from the Walks with all three points thanks to Aaron Wilson's 86th minute winner.

After Saturdays dismal showing at home to Cheshunt it was a brave man that would travel 180 miles in hope rather than expectation so the seven of us that made the trip must've been crazy but in the end we were among the happiest people in Norfolk!

Despite a defensive looking formation City actually created more chances than they did against Cheshunt and Alex Sykes' 35 yarder was the pick of three shots on target in the first half. Lynn had none. In the second a brave block by Charlie Defty under pressure from Tom Webb and a sitter missed by Syko made it look like we'd only get a point but substitute Wilson finished with aplomb and City took home the three points that they deserved.

Well done you Tigers - more of the same on Saturday please!

Tim Harris was brief but to the point after the game. Listen here.

Santa Fun Run
A Great Success
The first Santa Fun Run to be held at Meadow Park in aid of Leukaemia Care UK was a great success as 138 people ran up into Hempsted and back around Bristol Road into town before returning to the football ground via Llanthony Road. There were runners of all ages with plenty of kids and more mature participants as well as both players from the City team and Ladies team including Tim Harris, Ian Powell, Bev & Andy Aldridge. Even Rio's dog ran!

Photos from the Fun Run can be found at Tiger Images. All photos are available to buy with the first print being £4 (to cover p&p) and each one thereafter £2 each with all profits going to Leukaemia Care UK. To order please email me with the number of the photo you require (right click e.g "sfr15.jpg") and quantity as well as your name and address so we can get them sent to you as soon as possible.

Saturdays game at home to Cheshunt barely warrants a mention on the front page because of the woeful display put in by the Tigers. Two goals in the first half set the Londoners up for a painfully easy victory as City again resorted to hopeful punts forward instead of attempting to pass the ball.

Tim Harris was brutally honest after the final whistle when he spoke to Tiger Roar.

Saturday 2nd December 2006
Matt Bath
Spared City's blushes
For the second time in a week City have been soundly beaten on their own pitch, although this time it was Banbury United, a team from out own league that did the damage against a frail and makeshift Tigers defence.

The opening throes were evenly contested and after hitting the bar through a Jason Welsh header and a rasping shot from Aaron Wilson City were stunned with two goals in two minutes from Jon Gardiner and Howard Forinton.

The second half was a different story as Wilson spectacularly converted Welsh's knock down minutes after the restart but the Puritans took a grip on the game and hit City on the break to score further goals through Gardiner and Forinton to run out 4-1 winners mainly thanks to the outstanding Matt Bath.

For Tim's reaction click here.

Defender Jonny Miller has been released by the club. Jon was one of Tim Harris' first signings and was a useful addition with his long throw in and powerful shot. After doing well last season the Somerset based player has struggled to hold down a regular place. All the best Jon...

Tuesday 28th November 2006
Aaron Wilson
City scorer
City were comprehensively beaten at Meadow Park tonight by Conference South team Eastbourne Borough as their FA Trophy campaign came to an abrupt halt.

It started well for the Tigers when Michael Whittington, playing the last game of his months loan fired in a shot that was too hot for Boro keeper Lee Hook who could only parry it into the net. However defensive niavety saw Pat Harding score twice from virtually the same spot into the same corner, first with a deft lob and then with a drilled shot. Allan Tait made in three just before the break when he was given room on the edge of the area to put daylight between the two teams.

With the fans hoping for a change in personell for the second half it seemed that Tim Harris kept faith with his chosen XI only to see them surrender immediately as Scott Ramsay netted Eastbourne's fourth within a minute of the restart. Aaron Wilson pulled one back with a cross from the right wing that made a mug of Hook for the second time of the night before Ramsay got the fifth after Matt Bath had a lapse in concentration and missed a through ball. There was even time for Matt Crabb to get himself a straight red card for a crunching over the top tackle of Jonny Miller although the reaction of both teams probably made the referee's mind up for what was a harsh sending off!

For Tim's reaction click here.

Saturday 25th November 2006
Eastbourne Borough
MATCH OFF
After a night of persistant rain in Gloucester todays FA Trophy match against Conference South team Eastbourne Borough has been called off.

The game will now take place at 7.45pm on Tuesday night at Meadow Park. The Errea Cup match against Didcot Town will now be re-arranged.

Friday 24th November 2006
Sam Bailey
Wanted man
With tomorrows FA Trophy clash with Eastbourne Borough at Meadow Park (k/o 3pm) Tim Harris has been working hard to sign a centre half with Lyndon Tompkins ruled out for upto a month and Tom Hamblin suspended. Harris had been trying to persuade Sam Bailey to join on loan from Weston Super Mare for a month but the distance from the defenders home on the other side of Bristol to Gloucester seems to have put Bailey off. Chris Thompson and Jason Welsh will join forces to attempt keep Eastbourne at bay tomorrow.

It is also hoped that legendary striker Jimmy Cox will sign on the dotted line for the fourth time after Tim put in seven days notice to speak to him at his current club Yate Town. Coxy would make a welcome return to Meadow Park after regaining his form and fitness at Lodge Road following his trip to Australia.

Sunday 19th November 2006
Kelly Aldridge
Five goal haul
Following two defeats in the last two games the Ladies team restored some pride against Tetbury Town with an 8-0 victory this afternoon.

With Meadow Park out of action the game was played at the Winget in Tuffley Avenue and the ladies from the south of the county showed that they were going to be no pushovers as they gave as good as they got in the early stages and even hit the crossbar. However City's class soon told and they took the lead from an unusual source when Jenny Noyes beat the goalkeeper with a precise shot from fully thirty yards. Soon after Kelly Aldridge made it two before Yvette Kemp netted to give the Tigresses a comfortable half time lead.

Within a minute of the restart Aldridge had made it four before completing her hat-trick and injuring the goalie in the process. The replacement was never comfortable and conceeded two further strikes to Kelly and a final one to Donna Turner who'd been replaced between the sticks by Laura Stephens.

Photos from the game will appear here.

City's game against Corby Town yesterday was postponed after a very wet week in Gloucester saw parts of the Meadow Park pitch too saturated to enable the game to be played safely. Keep an eye on TR for details of the re-arranged date.

Tuesday 14th November 2006
Michael Whittington
Predatory strike
City's unimpressive record against Mangotsfield continued at Meadow Park tonight as they fell to a 1-2 defeat thanks to Aaron Cornwall's late winner.

Jason Welsh made his first start since picking up an injury against Tiverton by partnering Tom Hamblin in defence after Lyndon Tompkins was injured at Hemel on Saturday but he could do nothing about Chris Lane's second minute opener from twenty yards.

It was all Mangotsfield for half an hour and Troy Wood was unfortunate to be substituted as Welsh was moved up front in a tactical move as City tried to get into the game. It worked as Michael Whittington pounced on a error by the Mangos keeper after he'd spilled Mike Fowler's shot on the stroke of half time.

The second half saw an improvement for the Tigers but they couldn't find a way through and it was left to the Mangos to snatch the points with a late winner.

For Tim Harris' reaction click here and photos from the game click here.

Saturday 11th November 2006
Alex Sykes
Hero to Villain
City came away from todays game at Hemel Hempstead with a point although it'll will be seen as disappointing seeing as they again threw away a good lead.

Mike Fowler opened the scoring for City with a penalty before Garry Sippetts equalised after he drilled home the rebound from a deflected shot. Three goals in five minutes before half time saw Lyndon Tompkins and Alex Sykes score for City before Sippetts netted again and then Syko undid his good work by conceeding a penalty which John Lawford dispatched early in the second half.

For photos from Vauxhall Road click here and Tim's thoughts here.

Striker Jody Bevan has received bad news concerning his knee injury and has confirmed that he has ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and will require an operation. If he can get it done before Christmas it'll still be pre-season before he can play again. All the best Jody.

Mike Fowler and Hemel's John Lawford both put away their penalties in the 3-3 draw at Vauxhall Road

Monday 6th November 2006
Eastbourne Borough
Home in the Trophy
The draw for the third qualifying round of the FA Trophy has been made and City have been paired with Conference South opponents Eastbourne Borough. The Sussex side currently sit in sixth place in their league after missing out on promotion to the Conference National two seasons ago by losing to Altrincham in the playoffs at Stoke City. Tim Harris commented that the draw was a tough one but he was happy that the Tigers were at home.

City have announced a couple of dates for forthcoming fixtures with the Errea Cup third round tie at home to Didcot Town planned for Tuesday November 28th, although if the Eastbourne game is drawn then it will be postponed. Also a real test for City fans will be the away trip to Kings Lynn, now scheduled for a Tuesday evening on December 12th. Bonus points to any City fan who makes the trip to Norfolk and back for a midweek match!

Saturday 4th November 2006
Michael Whittington
Scored the winner!
City are through to the third qualifying round of this seasons FA Trophy after a hard earned victory against Ryman League side Margate.

The Tigers were made to work hard against a side with several players with Conference experience and also one of the worst referee's that Meadow Park has seen in many a day they progressed when loanee Michael Whittington converted a spot kick with thirteen minutes to go.

The club benefit financially too with £2000 for the victory and will look forward to Monday's draw where a money spinning home tie against AFC Wimbledon wouldn't go amiss!

Click here for photos from todays game

In the second round of this seasons Errea Cup City have been drawn at home to Didcot Town (date tba). The Railwaymen will be no pushover as they have decent FA Vase pedigree and today held Chippenham Town to a 3-3 draw.

Michael Whittington scores from the spot and the players & fans celebrate at the final whistle

Friday 3rd November 2006
Michael Whittington
On Loan again!
City will be aiming to bounce back from Wednesday's disappointing County Cup exit at Bishops Cleeve with a victory against Margate in the second qualifying round of the FA Trophy tomorrow at Meadow Park (k/o 3pm).

Tim Harris has moved to sign two strikers with Jason Welsh looking at upto six weeks on the sidelines and Joe Tustain suffering from a lack of confidence as well as Troy Wood being denied permission to play by Worcester City.

Former Coventry City attacker John Williams, now 38, is joined by Michael Whittington who starts his third loan spell with the Tigers. Williams was known as the Flying Postman when he was younger due to his electric pace but in recent years has slowed down whilst the number of clubs he has played for has picked up. Having been with Weston Super Mare recently Willo has also represented Evesham United, Redditch United and Bath City where he scored a penalty against us two seasons ago and then had to be subbed because he injured himself kicking the ball so hard!

Alongside Williams will be Whitts, now a familar face in yellow and black and back for his second months loan of the season and third since February. With ten goals in fifteen games already the Margate defence will have to be on their toes to stop the Tigers tomorrow!

The Youth team drew 1-1 at home to table toppers Malvern Town on Tuesday night. Click here for a few pictures from the game.

Sunday 29th October 2006
Laura Stephens
Grabbed the second
The Ladies put up a tremendous fight against Newquay at Meadow Park this afternoon but were eventually knocked out of the FA Cup, going down 2-4 to the Cornish side after extra time.

The South West Combination team had taken the lead midway through a keenly contested first half but were stunned as Kelly Aldridge scored an equaliser almost straight from the kick off. It got better for the Tigresses as Laura Stephens took a cross on her chest and made room to poke the ball home from twelve yards to give City a surprise but not undeserved lead at half time.

However a cruelly bouncing ball fooled Jade Lewis at the heart of City's defence and Katy Barker raced away to bring the scores even and ultimately send the game into extra time where a goal in each period decided the tie.

For photos from the game click here.

Last weeks match at Penzance was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, but that wasn't before the team had made the trip to west Cornwall.

400 miles for nothing!!!

Saturday 28th October 2006
Dave Wilkinson
The Equaliser
City struggled this afternoon against a workmanlike Stamford team after the heroics of Tuesday's FA Trophy replay against Tiverton.

Tim Harris had to field a team missing at least five of his first choice players and will have to be content with the point secured when Dave Wilkinson bundled home a second half equaliser following Martin Wormull's breakaway opener for the away team on the stroke of half time.

Although the game had looked in doubt midway through the first half when one of the linesman had to "come off" with an arm injury and after a ten minute delay was replaced by City striker Joe Tustain's dad Phil. Well done Mr T!

For photos from the game click here and for Tim's thoughts, here.

The County Cup game against Bishops Cleeve, postponed for the Trophy replay last week has been re-arranged for this coming Wednesday, November 1st.

Tuesday 24th October 2006
Matt Bath
Spot Kick Hero
City keeper Matt Bath was the hero at Meadow Park tonight as he denied both Barry McConnell and Darren Davies to beat Tiverton in the penalty shootout of this FA Trophy replay and earn the Tigers a home tie against Ryman League side Margate in the next round.

The game had started well with Mike Fowler picking out striker Jason Welsh in acres of space to finish past Josh Clapham but the visitors were back on level terms when Andrew Thomas got a lucky deflection to a Jamie Mudge free kick. The second half was a tight affair with chances for both teams but neither side could find the net and the game went into extra time.

City thought they'd won it when Welsh bagged his second of the game after Aaron Wilson's shot was blocked on the line but Mudge almost broke City's hearts with a late equaliser and it was down to Bathy to win the tie with his heroics in goal.

Photos from tonights game are here and here are comments from Tim Harris.

Well done City!

Saturday 21st October 2006
Jody Bevan
Bad Injury
City were very unlucky to be denied victory in this FA Trophy tie at Tiverton today.

Fit again Jason Welsh put in a man of the match performance as a centre half with a goal in the first half and a goaline clearance that saw the Tigers go into the break ahead. Striker Jody Bevan suffered a bad injury at the start of the second half and his replacement Michael Noakes was in the right place at the right time to double the lead with his first touch. However the home side got one back instantly through Chris Holloway before a highly disputed equaliser that saw Tom Gardner climb all over Welsh to take the tie into a replay at Meadow Park on Tuesday night. In the aftermath of the "goal" Jamie Reid was sent off for dissent.

Wednesday's County Cup game away at Bishops Cleeve has now been postponed due to the Trophy replay. Another fixture change sees the home match against Stamford from March 2007 moved forward to next Saturday.

Sunday 15th October 2006
Yvette Kemp
Goal & an assist
The Ladies made the short journey to Wanborough to face league newcomers Swindon Spitfires this afternoon and after breaking down a stubborn Wiltshire side they came away with a 2-0 victory.

Despite coming close on a number of occasions it took until the seventieth minute before Yvette Kemp gave the Tigresses the lead with a snapshot on the volley through a crowd of players. Her celebration was one of relief rather than excitement, so the cartwheels will have to wait! Kempy then turned provider when her corner picked out Helen Wood who headed the ball into the unguarded net to secure the victory.

Saturday 14th October 2006
Mike Fowler
Ricky Villa goal!
The Tigers had to settle for a disappointing point this afternoon after twice leading the students of Team Bath at Meadow Park.

Striker Michael Whittington, playing the last game of his loan spell, ghosted in unmarked onto the end of Jody Bevan's flick to give City the lead but a free header from a corner by Matt Taylor levelled matters before the break. In the second half Mike Fowler netted his first for the club with a "Ricky Villa" style effort that saw him dance around a number of defenders before coolly rolling the ball into the net in front of the T-End but a deflected shot late in the game from Joe Arnold mean't both teams had to share the points.

For a number of photos from the game click here.

With Kings Lynn progressing in the FA Cup, our league game against them at the Walks on October 28th has now been postponed.

Laura Green
Opening goal
The Ladies team made history this afternoon with a 4-0 victory over Bath City that saw them progress further in the Ladies FA Cup than ever before.

A header from Laura Green was all that seperated the two teams after a pretty even first period that saw the vistors on the attack for large periods although a mistake from the Bath keeper gifted Helen Wood a goal minutes into the second half. It was Mouse who killed the game with a low shot from twenty yards into the bottom corner before Donna Turner wrapped up the victory in the dying seconds with a close range effort.

Lyndon Tompkins
Red Card!
City moved up to fifth place in the table with a hard working victory away at Banbury United this afternoon.

Michael Whittington gave the Tigers an early advantage when he seized upon a defensive mistake and beat veteran goalkeeper Alan Judge on his near post with a shot into the roof of the net. Tim Harris' men struggled to build on their lead and were lucky not to go in behind as the home team piled on the pressure but were shut out by Jacob Giles and the woodwork.

The second half started well for City when Tom Webb was fouled as he ran across the corner of the area and Jody Bevan stepped up to cooly finish from the spot. But hearts started to flutter when the Puritans pulled one back through Jon Gardner as he picked up the pieces from a corner to finish from six yards. It got worse as Lyndon Tompkins was ruled to be the last defender when he brought down Andy Baird with a mistimed tackle but City, buoyed by their fantastic vocal support held on to claim a valuable three points.

Tuesday 3rd October 2006
Tom Webb
Sent Off
City bounced back from the FA Cup heartbreak with a narrow victory against a Chippenham Town with a goal midway through the second half from Jody Bevan. Tim Harris had sprung a surprise by bringing in goalkeeper Jacob Giles on loan from Newport County and dropping Matt Bath to the bench.

After a goalless first half the City striker netted his second goal in two games with a shot squeezed in from the narrowest of angles, although it wasn't plain sailing for Harris' men who played out the last fifteen minutes with ten men after Tom Webb had been sent off for a late tackle on Lazarus.
