Chris Thompson First of the Season |
A humdinger of a local derby and a six-pointer to boot brought victory to the Tigers as second half goals from Jimmy Cox and sealed this most important of wins. Matt Bath laid the foundations in the first half with a string of reflex saves to deny the Centurions. The win lifts City above their county rivals into fourth place and goes a long way to cementing that place in the top seven and promotion to the Premier Division.

Andy Hoskins Golden Boot? |
Who'd have thought that a home game against Cirencester Town would ever be billed as a 'Big Gloucestershire derby'? Strangely enough, that's the case tomorrow as the Centurians visit Meadow Park (k/o 3pm) sitting four places and two points above the Tigers in this promotion six-pointer.
City look set to be back to full strength following the return of former Cirencester Captain Keith Knight from his buisness commitments. With Tom Webb and Neil Mustoe in form in the middle of the park it's unlikely that Knight will start but it seems that Adam Howarth will come in at the back to mark Scott Griffin.
Twenty-three goal Top scorer Andy Hoskins now leads the Dr Martens Western Division hotshot chart by four clear goals. Early season rival Jason Ashby (who has now renamed himself Jason Moore) of Halesowen has tailed off and Hosky now finds himself being hotly pursued by Mangotsfield's Antipodean goalgetter David Seal on nineteen. The T-End are being encouraged to get behind the City number ten by chanting this Lee Mills penned song whenever he is near....
Andy Hosk is magic He wears a Magic Hat When he saw the Golden Boot He said "I'm having that!" |

Tom Webb Goal chalked off |
The curse of the abandoned match struck City again today as referee Mr Hodgson of Nuneaton called the game off with just twenty minutes gone. Tom Webb had given the Tigers a tenth minute lead but a strong wind blowing across the Common Road pitch turned the game into a farce. As Evesham goalkeeper Tim Clarke saw his goal kick come back in his direction for the umpteenth time the man in black blew to end the game.
Even though the game was abandoned, there are still a few photos .
Of the games completed there were some interesting results. Both Rugby and Cirencester lost whilst Team Bath beat Bromsgrove 1-0 to leapfrog City and leave us in fifth place at the bottom of the breakaway group. Redditch hammered Yate 4-0 to pretty much wrap up the title with eight games to go.
There are unconfirmed rumours that the game will be replayed on Tuesday. |

Lee Ross Injured Robins Striker |
The Tigers take to the road again tomorrow for the short trip to Evesham's Common Road ground (k/o 3pm). The squad will be strengthened by the return of Adam Howarth and Keith Knight who were missing in midweek, although both may struggle to break into what has been an impressive looking side in their last two away wins. Andy Hoskins will be keen to keep his goal-a-game ratio going at what is usually a lucky ground for City.
Evesham will be without their prolific goalscorer Lee Ross who was injured in a car crash two weeks ago. Lee, a regular poster on the crushed two vertibrae in his back and will be out of football for a year. The Robins are no strangers to football injuries as they are managed by Dave Busst, the Coventry defender who famously broke his leg at Old Trafford in 1995. |

Andy Hoskins Yet another goal |
City made it two away wins on the bounce last night at Bromsgrove in a replay of the game that was abandoned earlier in the season. Andy Hoskins made up for his early penalty miss by scoring just before half time (his fourth goal in four games) to give the Tigers a very important three points.

The Ladies team's fortunes have taken a twist for the better as rivals Bristol Manor Farm lost at Swindon Spitfires and now have to score twenty-one goals without reply over two games against Cogan Coronation to finish runners-up. The issue has now been further complicated with the news that the game against Bristol Rovers 'A' played on February 8th has to be replayed due to an illegible referee taking control. The new date has been set as Sunday March 28th when a win or draw for City will earn the Tigeresses second place. |

Jimmy Cox Much needed goals |
It was six of the best from City this afternoon as they comfortably beat strugglers Shepshed Dynamo at the Dovecote. Jimmy Cox opened the scoring when he beat the offside trap, rounded the keeper and netted, Andy Hoskins headed the second and Dave Wilkinson's strong run from a Hosky flick on yielded the third before the break.
Coxy continued where he left off at the start of the second half before Tom Webb tapped in Neil Griffiths' header from a Keith Knight free kick. Chris Burns took off both of his strikers and substitute Adam Hemming rounded things off when he seized on the goalkeeper's mistake to make it six.
The only sour point of the game was a yellow card for Wilko who was guilty of retaliating after being kicked in the face. The emphantic victory moves City up two places to fifth and makes Tuesday's game at Bromsgrove a real six-pointer.

Shepshed Dynamo Looong away trip |
City make one of their furthest trips of the season tomorrow when they travel to Shepshed take take on struggling Dynamo. Supporters can either go on the Team Coach or travel via the M5, M42, A42 and A512 to reach the Leicestershire town. The Dovecote ground is situated in Butthole Lane!
Barring the injured Lee Jeffries, Chris Burns will have a full side to pick from and if they can put aside off the field trouble should be heavy favourites to beat lowly Shepshed. The City defence will need to watch lively striker Wes Armstrong and as long as they don't play into Dynamo's hands like they did last April it should be an easy three points.
Before setting off for the game check the COF or phone the club answerphone on (01452) 412400 to check whether the game has fallen victim to the snow. |

Jo Thompson Tigeresses Mohican! |
It was frowns all around as the Ladies team fell to a calamatous 3-4 home defeat against bogey team Bristol Manor Farm. Having shared a promotion campaign with the team from the Creek last season, this year both are vying for a second place play-off spot for promotion to the SWWFL Premier. It's not all over though as Manor Farm have to play Swindon Spitfires away and Cogan Coronation both at home and in Cardiff.
Today saw the Tigresses fall to a two goal deficit before a Helen Wood penalty and close range effort from Kerys Portbury equalled the score at the interval. In the second half Manor Farm scored a further two goals before Lorraine Johnson outpaced the defence to pull one back. Despite some great vocal support it was too much and the Bristol side snatched the points. |

Tom Webb Superb performance |
In a stark contrast to last Saturday's game, today it was entertainment aplenty at Meadow Park as City snatched a draw at the death through an Andy Hoskins penalty. Redditch, the league's runaway leaders had taken the lead just before half time through Richard Softley after dominating the best part of the first period but it was all City in the second. Jimmy Cox had already missed from under the crossbar when a defender 'saved' a wicked shot from Adam Howarth and Hosky beat the keeper for his thirtieth goal of the season.
The match report is and photos are .
The Ladies team play their crucial match against Bristol Manor Farm at Meadow Park (k/o 2pm) as they try to cement a place in the play-off's and gain promotion to the SWWFL Premier Division. Entrance is free and the bar will be open so get down and support the Tigresses. |

Lee Jeffries out for season? |
As Lee Jeffries led injured on the ground in front of the T-End last Saturday no-one expected that the rock at the back was as badly hurt as is now feared. It has now been revealed that the defender has injured his ligaments and could well be out for the rest of the season. Not good news ahead of tomorrow's game against table-topping Redditch United (k/o 3pm), but the Tigers are strengthened with the return from suspension of Lee Smith and Tom Webb.
Runaway leaders Redditch will be hoping to win the title and also proceed to the Conference 2 via the playoffs at the end of the campaign. Good luck to them as it seems no coincidence that they have remained ahead of the rest for so long, however we hope the stumble tomorrow at Meadow Park! |

Helen Wood important hat-trick |
It was an important win for the Ladies at Meadow Park today as they comfortably beat Cheltenham Saracens 4-0. A hat trick from Helen Wood took her to an awesome 38 goals for the season, that added to an earlier goal from Lorraine Johnson completed the scoring for the Tigresses. The result makes next Sunday's game against Bristol Manor Farm very important as City look to cement second spot and a place in the play-off's. A draw against Manor Farm should be enough to see the Ladies through on goal difference.
The Supporters Club hold their annual Ruby's night at the Ruby's Cantonese restaurant on Bristol Road in Quedgeley tomorrow night, a football memorabilia auction is being held so check the COF for details. |

Andy Hoskins 29th of the season |
Entertainment was at a premium at Meadow Park today as City made hard work of beating ten man Stourport Swifts. Chances were few and far between yet penalty shouts weren't as it was a case of third time luck when the Tigers were awarded a spot kick after Adam Hemming was fouled. Swifts keeper Ryan Price was harshly sent off and Andy Hoskins beat stand in Kerry Giddins for his 29th goal of the season.
The cold crowd were then treated to a second half of missed chances and City players arguing among themselves. A performance like that next week against Redditch will see a heavy defeat. Sort it out City boys!
