Tom Webb Fantastic Performance |
City's Christmas cheer suffered a minor setback at Meadow Park this afternoon as Bristol side Mangotsfield United claimed a point in the Boxing Day derby. A goal against the run of play for Darren Edwards saw the visitors take the lead but after Andy Hoskins had seen his penalty saved, Dave Wilkinson continued in his rich goalscoring form to level things by the break. In the second half a superb Jimmy Cox run ended with a simple goal for Lee Smith but the 'other' MUFC snatched a point with a header from a free kick with ten minutes remaining.

City fan Pete Chase was poignently remembered with a well observed minutes' silence before the kick off. The City players wore black armbands for the game and paid their respects with a rarely seen hands on shoulders tribute. A fitting mark of respect for a great fan and a great man. |

Rugby Union at Meadow Park? |
In the light of revelations that Gloucester RFC's Kingsholm Stadium will not be large enough to accomodate plans for their new ground, City's main sponsor Eamonn McGurk and Chairman Colin Gardner have suggested that Meadow Park should be used as a combined rugby and football 'City of Gloucester' stadium. With a capacity of 17,000, the new facility would be based in the most go-ahead area of the City as the docks is being regenerated and would provide a fresh lease of life for both clubs and the City.
City take on Mangotsfield United at Meadow Park on Boxing Day (k/o 12 Noon) looking to redress the balance following the 2-3 reverse at Cossham Street in August. The Tigers could be without Chris Thompson who has a cut above the eye but will be boosted by the return of Lee Jeffries following his recent ban. Also added to the squad are Cheltenham Town trainess Marvin Thompson (defender) and Lee Davis (a striker).
Tiger Roar would like to wish all it's readers a Happy Christmas. |

Lee Jeffries 14 day ban completed |
There was no game for City today as Atherstone had succumbed to their financial burden at the beginning of the season. The blank Saturday may have added pressure to the Tigers with another game in and but out of the teams above us just Redditch managed to win. It also mean't that Lee Jeffries has served his fourteen day ban and will be available for the Mangotsfield game on Boxing Day.
The club will hold a get together and forum on Sunday afternoon for supporters and players. The event will run from 3pm until 6pm so get along to Meadow Park and show your support.
The funeral of City fan Pete Chase will take place at Gloucester Crematorium on Monday December 22nd at 10.30am. The family request family flowers only but donations can be made to two charities. To remember Pete, . |

Jimmy Cox two vital goals |
City came away from Stourport tonight with a hard earned three points thanks to a brace from Jimmy Cox. The Swifts had taken a first minute lead but Jimmy hit back with a goal in injury time of both halves to win it. The victory means that City remain in sixth position.
The match report is
Everyone at Tiger Roar sends their condoloncies to the Chase family following the sudden death of Pete, better known as the 'Caped Crusader' on the COF. Pete had followed the fortunes of Gloucester City for over forty years and following his retirement had devoted much of his spare time to the football club that he loved so dearly. We'll miss you CC :o( |

Helen Wood City Ladies' goalscorer |
City's Ladies team tasted defeat for the third week running going down 1-2 against title rivals Team Bath at Meadow Park. Helen Wood got the City goal.
After Saturdays blip at home to Rugby United City travel to Walshes Meadow on Tuesday evening hoping to take all three points from Stourport Swifts. The Worcestershire team have been quite an enigma for the Tigers with just one win in four attempts. If you're travelling to the game be sure to check the club answerphone (01452-421400) or the COF for news of a possible postponement and also the website for directions. |

Tom Webb closest to scoring |
City's fantastic ten match unbeaten run came to an end at Meadow Park this afternoon when Rugby United completed the double for the season with a 0-1 victory. It seemed it was never going to be our day as the referee was Harjender Singh from West Bromwich, an official who goes with Gloucester City like bread goes with wallpaper paste. The Rugby goal came on a breakaway after Wilko was subjected to a very heavy challenge which left City fans calling foul and he ignored shouts for a penalty in the last minute when Adam Hemming's cross was blocked by the United defender. Rugby will be delighted with the result!
You can read the match report and see the action shots .
Tigers Fan Lee Mills will tonight publish the results to the Roaring Back Awards 2003. Go to for more details.
City Ladies take on Team Bath at Meadow Park tomorrow (k/o 2pm) in a top of the table clash as the Tigeresses look to recover from a recent blip in form. Admission is free and the bar is open so come along and support the Ladies. |

Chris Thompson doubtful |
Rugby United are the visitors to Meadow Park tomorrow (k.o 3pm) as City aim to extend their unbeaten run to eleven games and make up more ground on the leading pack. The Warwickshire side inflicted one of City's two defeats with a 0-1 reverse at Butlin Road on the opening day of the season and strikers Justin Marsden and Robbie Beard will need to be well marshalled to prevent a repeat.
Youngster Dan Avery will continue in the heart of defence following his debut against Shepshed Dynamo in midweek. With Steve Jenkins, Adie Harris, Chris Thompson and Chris Burns all struggling youth teamers Liam Halliday, Karl Palmer and Gary Morrison have all signed senior forms and will be available. |

Andy Hoskins another hat-trick |
In a game that could've easily fallen victim to the elements, City tonight beat bottom team Shepshed Dynamo 5-2 to further their title ambitions. An early opener from Dave Wilkinson (again - I think he needs a drug test!) was followed by yet another Andy Hoskins hat trick before Keith Knight finished the scoring. Two first half goals from Simon Forsdick were enough to give the Tigers the jitters at the interval, but the fog lifted and City claimed all three points.
You can find a match report .
City Chairman Colin Gardner has played down reports of striker Jimmy Cox going to Bath City for £10,000. He has said that any offer would need to come via the board of directors and clubs would have to offer at least double that for the talented 24 year old marksman. |

Jo Thompson tale of two goals |
City Ladies fell to a surprising 2-4 defeat against the Swindon Spitfires at South Marston this afternoon. The Wiltshire side took the lead before a superb run and shot from Jo Thompson pulled the scores level. An own goal put the Tigeresses in front but the City scorer accidentally put through her own net as she tried to head clear a corner. Two further goals for the home team saw City end the game pointless and it will make next Sunday's game against the students of Team Bath (ko 2pm, Meadow Park) very important.
Full details and photos can be found on the .
Exiled City fan Andy Birchley is looking for two more people to help sponsor one of City's hospitality suites at Meadow Park for the Boxing Day match against Mangotsfield United. The cost will be a little more than £20 per person and will include the comfort of the box plus a fridge full of beer and cold snacks. Contact Andy either via the City Open Forum or email him |

Lee Smith opened the scoring |
City travelled to Ilkeston today and came away with a surprisingly easy 3-0 victory against a team brim full of football league experience. Two goals in a minute midway through the first half, the first a cross from Lee Smith that went straight in and a Wilko tap in at a corner gave City a flattering half time lead. Jimmy Cox made the game safe with one of three or four very good second half chances and Ilkeston couldn't have complained if we'd won 6-0.
Click for the match report and for a small number of action photos.
Rumours today suggested that Jimmy Cox has been the subject of a £10,000 bid from last weeks FA Trophy opponents Bath City, the club have rejected the offer and we can only hope that they continue to do so.
Finally, the abandoned match at Bromsgrove Rovers has been re-arranged for Tuesday February 10th 2004 with a 7.45pm kick off. |

Adie Harris still injured |
City embark on their longest away trip of the season with the 110 mile trek to Ilkeston Town tomorrow (k.o 3pm) to face Phil Stant's "Robins". Adie Harris is still struggling with a groin injury although Steve Jenkins may be fit enough to make the bench as City look to make up ground on the leading pack.
Directions to New Manor Park can be found at .
Two games have been re-arranged in January. Due to Gresley's fine win over Hinckley in the FA Trophy last week we had our game on the 10th postponed so they could play in the next round, however, this has been replaced with a home game against Yate Town. Ten days later we will now actually travel to Derbyshire to face Moatmen and hopefully gain revenge for the 3-3 draw last week. |

Shaun Penny Xmas on the dole |
Former City striker Shaun Penny has been sacked as coach at Mangotsfield United following a string of poor results for the Bristol side, manager Andy Black also had the bullet. Favourites for the vacant position at Cossham Street are ex-Bath City boss Alan Pridham, former Chippenham supremo Tommy Saunders and Darren Perrin of Paulton Rovers.
The Ladies team bowed out of the Pat Sowden Trophy at Huntley on Sunday when Newquay comfortably won 2-6. After going behind in the first minute, then conceding a second almost right after it was always going to be a big ask, but goals from Tsileka Perry and Helen Wood pegged the Cornish team back. However, the unbeaten leaders on the Southern division scored four more without reply to advance to the next stage. |

Dave Wilkinson consolation goal |
There will be no repeat of last seasons FA Trophy heroics as City succumbed to another Premier Division side away from home. This time, DM Premier strugglers Bath City were no great shakes but still managed to beat us 1-2 with all three goals coming in seven first half minutes. New manager Gary Owers bagged the first with a shot that left Matt Bath unsighted before Dave Wilkinson got his fifth in five starts with a header that bounced over the diving keeper. The winner came from Dan Cleverley in the 18th minute after great work from left back Alfie Carter, City were arguably worth a draw but a fine save from Lee Smith's volley saw the Somerset side through.
There are a few photos and a match report .
Tomorrow's Pat Sowden Trophy game between City Ladies and Newquay will be held at Huntley FC (k.o 2pm) after Meadow Park was deemed unfit. |

Chris Thompson flu victim |
As City prepare for tomorrows difficult FA Trophy tie against Bath City at Twerton Park, Chris Burns has been hit with news of a flu bug sweeping through his squad. Midfielder Chris Thompson is struggling with the virus and is doubtful along with Neil Mustoe who has a ligament injury, both Steve Jenkins and Adie Harris are continuing absentees. Lee Jeffries has shown no reaction to the injury that forced him to come off against Gresley and also Eric Barratt has been added to the squad as cover for Matt Bath.
If you fancy a bet on the big match have City at 11/5 to win. A draw is also 11/5 and Bath are priced at evens to win. |

Andy Hoskins perfect hat-trick |
City showed that having games in hand is no great advantage as they twice surrendered the lead to draw 3-3 with Gresley Rovers at Meadow Park tonight. Andy Hoskins' hat trick (one with his head, one with his left and one with his right) was only good for a point as the Moatmen scored twice in a minute late in the game to earn a share of the spoils.
A match report from tonights game can be found
Lee Jeffries has successfully appealed against the thirty five day ban handed down to him by the GFA after he was sent off for elbowing ex-Tiger Andy Tucker during a pre-season friendly at Bishops Cleeve in August. The former Clevedon man will now miss just three games in a fourteen day spell in December. The games will be Shepshed and Rugby at home and away at Stourport. |

Helen Wood 16 goals in 3 games! |
City's Ladies team completed a remarkable 8-5 victory against old foes Bristol Manor Farm at a rainswept Meadow Park yesterday. A hat trick from leading scorer Helen Wood, now with twenty eight goals in ten games this season, two from Laura Meheran and one each from Yvette Kemp and Laura Stephens plus an own goal saw City turn around a two goal defecit at the break. For more information visit the .
The mens team take on Gresley Rovers tomorrow night as they attempt to make it six wins in seven league games. The side from the former Derbyshire mining village of Church Gresley are never easy opponents and have had more than their share of victories at Meadow Park in the past. Dave Wilkinson two goal hero |
Two goals from midfielder Dave Wilkinson were enough to earn all three points for City against a spirited Bedworth Side. His first came just after half an hour when he reacted quickest to a lobbed up header at a corner. Bed'uth pulled the scores level ten minutes later when they converted a smartly taken free kick on the edge of the box and Wilko won the game for City with a header from six inches out after the keeper had all but saved it. It wasn't the best of games and it wasn't the best of days.

Steve Jenkins injured again |
City host Bedworth United tomorrow at Meadow Park (k.o 3pm) not only hoping to complete the double, but also hoping to finish the ninety minutes after tuesday's floodlight failure. It had been hoped that the game would take place with an earlier kick off but the Coventry team staunchly refused. Chris Burns will have a full team to choose from apart from Steve Jenkins who is ruled out due to his persistent stomach injury.
One of City's games needing to be re-arranged has been alloted a date. We will travel to Damson Parkway to face Solihull Borough on Monday January 12th 2004, with a 7.45pm kick off.
The Supporters Coach to Bath City next Saturday is filling up rapidly, there are only a small number of places left. The cost will be £5 per adult and £3 per child (infants go free) and it leaves Meadow Park at 12.30pm with a pick up en route at Tesco's (Quedgeley) at 12.40pm. |

Colin Gardner official statement |
Gloucester City Chairman Colin Gardner has released an official statement following the discontent among the playing staff at Meadow Park since the weekend's 1-0 victory at Sutton Coldfield.
"Gloucester City agreed a playing budget with Chris Burns, Manager at the commencement of the season. This budget was agreed at Board level. Recent events suggested that this figure should be raised so that players do not have to sell lottery tickets. The people who wish for this figure to be raised are not liable at the end of the season for any debts incurred by Gloucester City. I am. Therefore any alteration to the playing budget at the club must meet with my approval so that I am aware how the increased debt is to be paid for. Winnings achieved so far by the players in the Cup and Trophy do not go to the players. After all when Gloucester City in other years, have won no money in these matches, the club would not expect the players to have to pay for those losses. At the meeting last night some of those people present wished to look at raising the playing budget to save players selling as many lottery tickets. At this point, I suggested that if this was their wish then they should find a new Chairman who was prepared to fund the increase, as I was not. I did not wish to be part of the financial roller coaster that always follows increases in expenditure as has happened at Gloucester City before. I then left the meeting, for those remaining to decide the future strategy at the club. Some time later, Chris Burns and I talked and agreed to carry on at the club with the same budget in place reverting to an as you were situation. I will stay at Gloucester City as long as our sensible financial plan is adhered to and I will not be part of any speculative dealing where money is gambled to win more. It has happened too many times in the past to the cost of the club. The events of the past few days have nearly destroyed a lot of good working relationships that have taken years to build. It is important that Gloucester City learn from this episode that it is easy to destroy in minutes, that which has taken years to achieve. We must all now work together in the rebuilding of the club to the levels that we know that we can achieve, the supporters, supporters club, players and Board of Directors, as partners, not as individuals."
We here at Tiger Roar hope that this will put an end to the unrest at the club and that all parties can concentrate of achieving a top seven finish in the league and a decent FA Trophy run like last season. |

Yate Town darkness |
First it happened at Team Bath (well, it didn't happen, it didn't start), then the lights went out at Bromsgrove and tonight Meadow Park suffered it's own floodlight failure. With the possibility of betting on City's games being discussed, could there be a betting syndicate from the Far East tampering with the electrics at our matches? I think we should hire a !
City were actually in front at the time, Adie Harris had got on the end of a Hoskins flick as early as the second minute to score. However, a seemingly weakened City team weren't having the best of the game and Yate looked better than their league position suggested. Keith Knight was unlucky as his piledriver of a shot smacked the bar and minutes later the lights went out. |

Heather Mason Scored Twice |
Records went tumbling at Meadow Park yesterday as the ladies team scored an incredible twenty-two goals in their County Cup game against Avening Angels. Jimmy Cox Easiest goal of his life |
City continued their quest to claw back points and march up the league table with an impressive 1-0 victory at high flying Sutton Coldfield Town. A goal seven minutes into the second half by Jimmy Cox was enough for all three points, although City did well to hold onto them as the Midlanders gave their all as they fought back. Sutton were lucky to have eleven men on the field as their full back was only booked for punching Andy Hoskins in the face midway through the first half. Hosk was booked too, we guessed that it was for headbutting the guys fist!

Karl Bayliss sealed the win |
In a rare league game City travelled to Clevedon's Hand Stadium and took all three points after an improved second half performance. Dave Wilkinson got the equaliser |
City progressed through to the second round of the FA Trophy and an away tie at Bath City thanks to a somewhat frustrating win against Rothwell at Meadow Park. We absolutely hammered them throughout the game but it was the Bones that took the lead just before half time thanks to a long range shot from James Thatcher. Dave Wilkinson eventually equalised midway through the second half before the game went into extra time. Further goals from Andy Hoskins (a header and a penalty) and Jimmy Cox gave the Tigers the 4-1 win.

Lee Smith sealed the win |
In a game that was a cross between the poor performance against Team Bath and the great win over Merthyr, City progressed to the first round of the FA Trophy win a fortunate 2-0 win over Evesham United. Despite being clearly second best, Andy Hoskins put the Tigers 1-0 up midway through the first half when he shot into the far corner after Adie Harris had found him with a superbly measured pass. The Robins missed a great chance to equalise on the stroke of half time but their striker could only head wide with reserve keeper Eric Barrat rooted to the spot. Both teams made and wasted chances in the second half but Lee Smith made no mistake deep into injury time by netting Jimmy Cox's cut back from six yards out.
City's reward is an away game at Rothwell Town on November 1st.
