Keith Knight
back in yellow & black
Right winger / midfielder Keith Knight has rejoined City for his third full spell at Meadow Park. Having first signed from Reading in 1990, then from Trowbridge in 1994. At 33 years old he will add experience to our young squad, but it will also fuel rumours of the impending departure of one of last seasons starlets.

'Tigers fan', Lee Mills, soon to leave the City to embark upon further education at Exeter University has started up the City Exiles Club. It is aimed at those City fans who have lived outside of Gloucester for a few years but are still keen fans. More information can be found on the website.

Brian Godfrey
announces retirement
City's assistant manager Brian Godfrey has brought the curtain down on his long footballing career. It's understood that he has bought property in Cyprus and has moved out there to enjoy his retirement.

Brians association with City started back in 1987 when he was appointed manager by then chairman Geoff Hester. He remoulded the whole squad and won the Midland Division Championship in his first full season. The following year, with Steve Millard as his right hand man, he guided the club to their best ever place in the FA Cup, eventually losing 0-1 in a replay at home to Cardiff City. In 1990/91 only a late goal from Farnboroughs Colin Fielder denied Brians team a place in the Conference but it all turned sour a few months later when financial constraints saw the fiery Welshman relieved of his duties. Millard took over the reigns but was never best suited to management and Godfrey was re-appointed by George Irvine in early 1992. Brian did his best with limited resources but it was never the same was replaced by John Murphy two years later.

Spells in local football with Cinderford and Uplands followed before he returned to Meadow Park as assistant to Tommy Callinan, a role that he continue under present manager Chris Burns.

All the best Brian, thanks for the memories!

Adie Harris
Player of the Season
Before the Cirencester game, evergreen wing back Adie Harris was named as the Supporters Player of the Season. Well done Adie!

Changes to the league next season sees both Merthyr Tydfil and Weston Super Mare promoted, with Ilkeston Town and Halesowen Town coming down in their place. At the opposite end, Racing Club Warwick have been down for a while, but a frenetic last days saw wins for both Atherstone United and Swindon Supermarine meaning that Rocester would go down. Replacing them will be Bath University side, Team Bath and also an as yet undecided team.

Saturday 3rd May 2003
Jimmy Cox
Three against Ciren
City finished off their season in some sort of style with a 5-4 win over local side Cirencester Town. A Jimmy Cox goal gave City the lead, before Gareth Hopkins chipped Matt Bath to equalise. Cox then put City 2-1 up when he reacted quickest after the keeper had parried his shot, then Lee Smith got on the end of a cross from Steve Chipps and finished with a diving header that the stand in keeper might've done better to reach. That completed a great season for Lee as it mean't that he reached double figures for the first time for City. Ciren the had the opportunity to pull one back before the break after Neil Griffiths fouled Ben Fitch in the area. Fortunately Bath got down well to save Darren Robison's penalty.

Cox completed his hat trick on 51 minutes and then Tom Webb rounded the keeper to score his first goal at Meadow Park for the senior side. City then made three changes and let the opposition back into the game, almost allowing the to snatch a point from 1-5 down! However, the Tigers hung on and finished the season in fifth place.

Saturday 26th April 2003
Tom Webb
Scorer at Rocester
City completed their away program at Rocester in Staffordshire this afternoon with a 2-2 draw. The Tigers found themselves trailing to the Romans twice but Tom Webbs fourth goal of the season and Jimmy Cox's 22nd earned a point for City.

Monday 21st April 2003
Andy Hoskins
Two goals on Monday
In a fantastic Bank Holiday Monday encounter City travelled to Cossham Street and inflicted their heaviest defeat of the season on hosts Mangotsfield United. The home side controlled most of the early exchanges but a heavy challenged on Paul Thompson in the Mangos goal by Andy Hoskins turned the game in Ciy's favour. Tom Webb scored soon after and with the keeper clearly struggling he was replaced at half time. Going downhill in the second half and facing a rookie goalkeeper City scored three more through Lee Smith and two from the villian Hoskins with the Bristol side pegging one back while we were three up. A good win for the Tigers and the double over league rivals Mangotsfield.

Saturday 19th April 2003
Chris Burns
Saviour from the spot
In a dour end of season encounter Clevedon came to Meadow Park and threatened to take all three points back to Somerset. Ex-City man Steve Lester scored midway through the first half and held out until injury time when an unecessary challenge on Lee Smith saw the Tigers awarded a penalty, which Chris Burns duly dispatched. Not a great advert for football at this or any level!
