November 28th 2001 - Suspension averted as Gardner pays debt |
Gloucester City Chairman elect Colin Gardner has saved the Tigers from potential closure.
He has stepped in to clear an outstanding debt to the Football Association, that could've resulted in City being suspended from football as of Monday 10th December.
The debt of mopre than £3000 was incurred through non-payment of administration fees and fines, dating back to last season and incorporating the current one.
A meeting held at FA Headquarters in Soho Square on November 21st charged the Tigers with a breach of FA rule E11.
From the evidence obtained, the members decided that the anounts of £1870.63 (outstanding loan payment), £771 (administration fees and fines for season 2000/01) and £250 for the nine bookings at Cirencester Town in September, totalling £2891.63 must be paid in full by December 3rd.
A furious City also incurred a further fine of £200.
Gardner contacted the Citizen to underline the severity of the situation. "I was fuming when the news broke and I have paid the debt off, but this will never happen again at this club while I'm Chairman," said Gardner. "A suspension from football would have seen us expunged from the league."
"I have loaned the club the money and we will all have to work hard."
"Things are starting to improve and we are positive."
Secretary Jason Mills explained City had negotiated at length with the FA, but he was delighted with Gardner's gesture. "With Colin at the club we can all move forward and his input is vital for the future of Gloucester City," Mills said. |
