Phil Bater - Defender
D.O.B. - - Cardiff
Debut : Rushden Town (H) - 18.08/90 Last Game : Farnborough Town (H) 27/08/90
Phil Bater was a vastly experienced defender who'd made several hundred appearances in the Football League.
He was attracted to Meadow Park by Steve Millard in the summer of 1990 and after having impressed throughout the pre-season campaign he had a change of heart after his debut against Rushden Town and declared that he wanted to spend more time with his fledgling landscape gardening business.
Despite Millards best efforts Bater was only to appear one more time, against eventual chamions Farnborough Town before he left the club.
In the mid 90's Bater got back into football as a youth coach with Bristol Rovers, one of his former clubs and latterly moved into non-league management by taking over from Steve Fey at Clevedon Town.
His son Geraint played under him at The Hand Stadium and moved onto Mangotsfield when Bate relinquished his post in the summer of 2008.
