Made his debut for Gloucester City in April 1952 in a friendly against Chelsea Reserves at Longlevens. He made a further three friendly appearances but had to wait till May 1953 to make his one and only competitive appearance. Joe’s other pursuit was as a vocalist to ‘big band music’. Even at the age of 65 was fronting the Jack Beckingham Band around Gloucester.
