Chris Hamblin - Goalkeeper
Debut : October 14th 1995 - Worcester City (H)
Last Game : December 12th 1995 - Rushden & D (A) unused sub
Chris was a 5' 9" goalkeeper signed by the club upon his release from Swindon Town.
His primary role at the club was as reserve keeper to David Coles and it wasn't until a crucial local derby against Worcester City that he was called into action and he was man of the match as City won 2-1.
Unfortunately for Chris, his fourth game will be etched in the memories of City's fans for a long while. He was in goal when Salisbury's Gary Manson scored a five minute hat-trick to turn an easy 3-0 win into a nightmare 3-3 draw. Manson also hit the crossbar with a header!
Once Coles was fit again Hamblin was relegated back to the sidelines and didn't play for the club again but went on to represent local sides Evesham United and Trowbridge Town before he embarked on a career in the United States.
The highlights of his "soccer" career was being named Big East Conference Male Scholar Athlete of the Year, 2001 when he was also picked on the Division I NSCAA First Team All-American team.
Chris now runs , a company which assists young players with their college soccer applications in the USA.
Even though he only played in seven games for the Tigers, he won four of them and only lost once!
Chris still plays in an 0ver 30's indoor league in Boston in a team that includes ex-Middlesborough player Robbie Mustoe and former Liverpool defender Steve Nicol. |
