Youth team graduate who first appeared on a teamsheet as an unused substitute in the game at Nuneaton Borough on December 21st 1996. I remember it well because I ran out of petrol on the way home.
After getting his break in the first team Will went to Chelsea on trial along with Gary Thorne in 1997. By now he was a regular and played mostly at centre-back but he fell out of favour playing at full back when Brian Hughes took over and moved to Cinderford Town under John Murphy's management.
Fifteen months later he was back at Meadow Park just in time to see City get relegated. His first full season back was with Tommy Callinan as team co-ordinator, unfortunately he missed a penalty which cost City dearly in an FA Cup 4th qualifier at home to Havant & Waterlooville.
Another low point was at home to Rocester when he got involved in fisticuffs after a challenge from Lee Smith broke an opponents leg and he was red carded. A more costly one was in the FA Trophy quarter final at Aylebury when he was adjudged to have fouled Kezie Ibe despite the Ducks' striker spending all game with his arms wrapped around Will yet the one time Will did it he was sent off!
He was never a prolific goalscorer and scored just the two goals, three if you count the one in the 4-2 home win versus Solihull Borough which he may or may not have got a touch to.
