Disappointingly left the club after recovering from a serious injury which kept him out of contention for the majority of the 1990/91 "nearly" season.
Steve was an attack minded right back who brought a wealth of experience when Brian Godfrey snapped him up in the summer of 1990 but he managed just seven games after his injury at home to Ton Pentre in the FA Cup that September.
He was part of the tour party that played three games in Georgia but as the players returned to the UK they were victims of the clubs need to cut costs following the resignation of Les Alderman. Abbley headed to Trowbridge.
In February 1992 after the team had concluded a gruelling four games tie against Runcorn in the FA Trophy Brian Godfrey re-signed both Steve and Ray Baverstock to bolster his ailing squad.
In this time he made twelve appearance (one as sub), scored his only goal for the club at VS Rugby and suffered the indignity of the only red card of his career when he was sent off for two bookings away at Halesowen Town.
Steve is now the Chairman at Cirencester Town.
