Matt had played against City in a pre-season friendly for Moreton Town and was reserve keeper for the Hellenic League club. Legend has it he had a phone call from his Manager there asking if he fancied a game on Saturday to which he replied yes, "Good. You're playing for Gloucester City" came the reply! During his twelve games he lost his place to Robbie Kemp, then Russell Bowles before eventually Steve Crompton was signed from Harrow Borough. Twenty-five years later Matt was a familiar face at City games again as groundsman at their temporary home at Whaddon Road.The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog.
