Mark Abbott - Defender / Midfielder
Debut : Crawley Town (H) - 18/12/99
Last Game : Shepshed Dynamo (A) - 05/05/01
Mark was a player recommended to Brian Hughes whilst he was studying at the University of Gloucestershire.
He made his debut at home to Crawley Town just before Christmas 1999 and contributed his first goal for the club in City's first away win of the season, at Dorchester six weeks later in January 2000.
Abbott hailed from Biggin Hill in south London and trained with Charlton Athletic as a schoolboy. He was playing sunday football when Croydon FC asked him to play for them and he progressed from the youth team to make first-team appearances for the Ryman League division one club. He also turned out for the reserves at Premier division Dulwich Hamlet before starting a degree in sport and exercise science in Gloucester.
Abbott was also a regular in the college football team, which played in the BUSA universities championship.
Sadly for City when his course was over he returned to his native south-east.
