He followed in the footsteps of goalkeeper Len Bond who'd recently joined the Tigers on loan. Sherwood played his first game in a 2-4 friendly defeat at home to Bristol City the day after he put pen to paper at Meadow Park but his full debut came almost a week later at home to Yate Town in the County Cup. It was Sherwood's long free kick that was to provide the assist for John Freegard to nod home City's infamous winner at Bromsgrove on May 4th 1991.
