James began his career as a junior with Bristol Rovers and signed an eighteen month professional contract but didn't make an appearance for the first team. He signed for Weston on a two year deal in 2008. His father Dave was a Bath City stalwart having played almost 450 games game for the Twerton Park outfit before going on to become assistance manager to ex-Tigers boss Steve Millard.
