Goodison Park - the home of Everton FC |
|
As far as friendly matches go, surely this is one of the best that we've ever seen involving Gloucester City.
Everton came to Meadow park with a mixed squad, they certainly didn't field their strongest team but there were some top players on show including new signing Vinny Samways and ex-Arsenal man Anders Limpar. It was also a trial for a Swedish International called Eriksson who they wanted to sign but he limped off after quarter of an hour and was never seen again.
City played well and scored a cracking opening goal through Karl Bayliss who bravely wnet in with reserve keeper Jason Kearton to score.
As the game wore on Everton started to up the tempo, they sensed defeat and put City under the cosh. Their equaliser eventually came when young defender Neil Moore rose highest at the far poist to head home a corner deep into injury time. The game might not have been real but the cheers from the Everton fans were.
As the final whistle blew the autograph hunters invaded the pitch and Samways moved quicker than he had all night when he beat a hasty retreat to the away dressing room. Miserable sod!
