Dave Hodges - Midfielder
D.O.B. - - Ross-on-Wye
Debut : Cheltenham Town (A) - 06/10/92 Last Game : Trowbridge Town (H) - 23/02/93
A real coup of a signing by Brian Godfrey in October 1992.
Hodges had been a professional at Torquay United but found himself playing local football back in his home town of Ross-on-Wye following his release. He made his debut in the County Cup at Whaddon Road where he scored a lovely goal in a 2-1 win.
He scored three times in total although one that stood out went down as an own goal; in a County Cup tie against AFC Newport he shot from distance and took a deflection off of a defender. The bounce fell nicely for goalkeeper Mark Kendall to claim but the spin from the deflection saw it bounce past the former Tottenham stoppers grasp and into the unguarded goal.
Whilst at the club Hodges was invited for a trial at Bristol City but eventually left to join Kettering Town in February 1993.
When he was at Plainmoor he was part of a Torquay United side heavily criticised by chairman Mike Bateson as very few of the players at the club were married and thus adopted a laddish culture.
This was backed up by the fact that he injured himself playing "tag" at work!
