Blonde haired Welsh striker who was the clubs top scorer in the 1987/88 season, netting 28 goals including two hat tricks. That included a four goal haul in the 5-1 win against Wellingborough Town.
Chris signed from Worcester City and made his debut alongside Worcestershire cricketer Phil Neale who had also joined Tim Harris' men. Hyde scored within three minutes. He finished the season with eight goals including a hat trick in the 6-1 home win against Banbury United.
But it was the following season that he really made his mark under Brian Godfrey with those 28 goals and that included a three month period between December and March when he failed to find the net! He was goalless again in the next campaign and left the club in November.
With Chris Townsend injured Hyde was re-signed and featured in game against a Stroud FC XI (including Ossie Ardiles) before eventually seeing action away at Hednesford in the league cup. In fact the four goals that he scored in twelve appearances all came in that competition.
Chris returned to Meadow Park as a Cinderford Town player in October 1994 in an FA Cup tie which City won 2-0. He was serenaded by the T-End with chants of "Peter Stringfellow, Peter Stringfellow..."!
Chris' son Cory, also a striker had a trial with City in February 2004 and came off of the bench in a 1-6 defeat to Bristol City away in the County Cup.
